Metallurgist

We are hiring: Metallurgist Mechanical & Metallography | ITCPL, Ahmedabad

Industrial Testing Center Private Limited (ITCPL), a NABLaccredited multidiscipline laboratory based in Kathwada GIDC, Ahmedabad, is looking for a Metallurgist Mechanical & Metallography to join our team.

About the role

You will be responsible for metallography and metallurgical evaluation, and for closely coordinating with our mechanical testing section to correlate microstructure with mechanical properties, codes, and client specifications across a wide range of industrial components.

Key responsibilities

• Perform metallography on parent metals and welds: microstructure, grain size, inclusion rating, decarburization, case depth, coating thickness, macro etch, graphite/nodularity in cast irons, quantitative metallography.
• Carry out macro and micro examination of welds (weld metal, HAZ, parent metal) for PQR/WPQ and fitnessforservice assessments.
• Conduct replica / insitu metallography for boilers, pressure vessels, piping and other inservice components, and support condition assessment / damage evaluation.
• Support failure investigations in coordination with mechanical, chemical, corrosion and NDT teams, providing metallurgical interpretation and documentation.
• Coordinate with mechanical testing for:
• Tensile tests (room temperature and elevated temperature up to 800C)
• Bend tests (root, face, side, reverse, parent metal, double, rebend)
• Pipe/tube tests (flattening, flaring, drift expansion, reverse flattening)
• Pullout tests of tubetotubesheet joints
• Charpy Vnotch impact tests from +100C to 196C
• Fastener tests (proof load, wedge load, fullsize bolt breaking, shear, retempering)
• Hardness tests (Rockwell, Brinell, Vickers, MicroVickers, macro hardness traverse)
• Correlate mechanical test results with microstructure and heat treatment condition, and contribute to clear, clientready reports.
• Ensure compliance with relevant ASTM/IS/ISO standards and NABL ISO/IEC 17025 requirements in all metallurgical and mechanicalrelated activities.

What were looking for

• BE / BTech / ME / MTech in Metallurgical Engineering / Metallurgy / Materials Science.
• 05 years experience in an industrial testing lab / steel plant / foundry / forging shop (freshers with strong metallography and testing exposure are also encouraged to apply).
• Handson skills in metallographic sample preparation, micro/macro examination, and basic understanding of mechanical tests listed above.
• Familiarity with ASTM/IS/ISO standards for metallography and mechanical testing and willingness to work within NABL systems.
• Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and good communication skills for technical reporting and client interaction.
