Job Summary
The Media Relations Specialist will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive media relations strategies that enhance our clients' visibility and reputation. This role requires a proactive individual who excels at building and nurturing relationships with journalists, editors, bloggers, influencers, and other media professionals. You will handle both proactive outreach and reactive inquiries, ensuring timely, accurate, and strategic communications across online and offline channels.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with a keen understanding of the media ecosystem, including traditional print and broadcast outlets as well as digital platforms, social media, podcasts, and emerging media formats. You should thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and be adept at managing multiple projects while maintaining composure under pressure.

Key Responsibilities
- **Strategy Development and Execution**: Design and implement tailored media relations campaigns to secure high-impact coverage in target outlets. Identify opportunities for client stories, thought leadership, and feature placements.
- **Relationship Building**: Cultivate and maintain long-term relationships with key media contacts, including journalists, producers, editors, influencers, and podcasters. Attend networking events, press conferences, and industry gatherings both virtually and in-person.
- **Content Creation and editing **: Write, edit, and distribute press releases, media pitches, op-eds, fact sheets, media kits, and briefing documents. Ensure all materials are compelling, error-free, and aligned with client messaging.
- **Media Monitoring and Response**: Monitor media coverage daily using tools like Cision, Meltwater, or Google Alerts. Respond promptly to incoming media inquiries, coordinate interviews, and facilitate spokesperson preparation.
- **Crisis Communications**: Support crisis management efforts by drafting holding statements, monitoring sentiment, and coordinating rapid responses to mitigate negative coverage.
- **Online and Offline Engagement**: Manage digital PR initiatives, including social media outreach, influencer collaborations, and online press rooms. Organize offline activities such as press tours, events, product launches, and media fam trips.
- **Reporting and Analytics**: Track media placements, measure coverage impact (e.g., reach, sentiment, share of voice), and prepare detailed reports for clients and internal stakeholders. Use insights to refine future strategies.
- **Collaboration**: Work closely with internal teams (account management, creative, digital, and senior leadership) to ensure seamless integration of media relations with broader PR and marketing efforts.
- **Spokesperson Training**: Prepare clients and executives for media interviews, providing media training, key message development, and mock sessions.
- **Trend Awareness**: Stay abreast of media trends, industry news, and journalistic shifts to anticipate opportunities and advise clients proactively.
Requirements and Qualifications
- **Education**: Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
- **Experience**: Minimum 1 years of hands-on experience in media relations, public relations, journalism, or agency settings. Proven success in securing coverage in national, regional, and trade media.
- **Skills**:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive pitches and adapt messaging for diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and networking abilities to build rapport with media professionals.
- Proficiency in media databases and monitoring tools
- Solid understanding of digital media, including social platforms (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram), SEO basics, and content distribution.
- Experience handling both online (virtual pitches, social listening) and offline (in-person events, press junkets) communications.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
- Crisis communications experience and the ability to remain calm during challenging situations.
