Job Description

You’ll be our: Mechanical System Engineer 

You’ll be based at: IBC, Bangalore

 You’ll be Aligned with: Lead-Vehicle System Engineer

 You’ll be a member of: Vehicle Integration


 What you’ll do at Ather - 

Concept phase: 

1. Understanding product specifications and translating them to vehicle-level specifications.

 a. Working with attribute engineers 

b. Only for the Mech side of things 

2. Defining the vehicle hardpoints(camber, sag, ground clearance, pivot point, motion ratio, etc.,) and creating configurations of vehicle layout/grand master sketch.

 3. Responsible for the vehicle architecture based on static and dynamic packaging studies. 

4. Assessing the system level and attribute level complexities across modules and selecting the course of action that will benefit the vehicle the most. 

5. Working on the vehicle layout while meeting product requirements - Architecture, packaging of various concepts, variants, and uber-level BOM specifications.

 6. Benchmarking at vehicle level. Development phase: 

7. Managing the vehicle level specifications throughout the development phase. 

8. Participate and drive meetings where multiple engineering functions are involved. 

9. Defining all the interfaces between parts(Elec. and Mech) and the assembly torques at the vehicle level.

 10. Overseeing the vehicle weight and weight-related attributes such as CG, sag, etc., 

11. Analyzing vehicle trim and assembly-related GD&T - To ensure no vehicle level issues arise due to sub-systems.

 12. Accountable for mitigating the risks that come up during interaction checks to ensure seamless vehicle build. 

13. Accountable for addressing and closing all Design for Assembly(DFA) and Design for Service(DFS) related points during development. 

14. Collate specifications related to all vehicle level attributes(Durability, NVH, VD, Fit and Finish, Ergo etc.,) by working with the Attribute engineers.. 

15. Work with the validation team to ensure vehicle-level test cases are performed. 

16. Participate in the Vehicle level DFMEA and maintain consolidated Engineering Risk register. 17. Responsible for defining vehicle-level torques. 

18. Coordinate with the Regulations team to complete the vehicle-level homologation documentation. 

19. Perform Root Cause Analysis(RCA) for issues at vehicle level, and take them to closure. Production phase: 

20. Take part actively in builds and resolve issues. 

21. Continuous support and sustenance activities of production and field issues related to the vehicle. 

22. Responsible for the RSA and RCA of vehicle-level issues. 

23. Identification of CTQ for quality control. 


Here’s what we are looking for: 

Domain skills: 

● Deep understanding of 2-wheeler vehicle architectures and subsystems

 ● Knowledge of electric 2-wheeler mechanical layouts 

● Systems Engineering Approach 

● Concept Generation and Problem Solving 

● Teamcenter, NX, and Vizmockup 

● GDnT, Tolerance stack up

 ● Understanding of DFx

 ● Knowledge of Agile methodology in Product development

. ● Strong inclination towards systems and processes in New Product development. 


What You bring to Ather: 

● B.Tech/B.E/M.tech/M.E. or equivalent with Specialization in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline .

● 6 to 9 years of relevant experience overall. Should have worked or has an understanding of 2W Vehicle system engineering roles. Good understanding of the various 2W aggregates/systems with demonstrated experience in developing new vehicle architectures.
