Mechanical Engineer – Structural Design (Defence Equipment)

Introduction:

Our client is a leading manufacturer of mechanical and electro-mechanical products across a diverse set of industries including the aerospace and defense sector. This role is for structural design of defence equipment. Further details to be shared after shortlisting.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer Structural Design with experience in the design and development of defence equipment structures, including payload systems and pedestals. The candidate should have strong expertise in structural analysis, drafting, and engineering drawings, ensuring high precision and compliance with defence standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop structural components for defence equipment such as payload mounting systems and pedestals.
• Perform structural calculations and analysis to ensure strength, stability, and durability.
• Conduct FEA (Finite Element Analysis) for load, vibration, and stress analysis.
• Prepare detailed 2D drawings and 3D models as per project requirements.
• Develop manufacturing drawings with GD&T standards.
• Coordinate with production and fabrication teams for design feasibility.
• Review and validate design specifications and technical documents.
• Ensure compliance with defence quality and safety standards.
• Support prototype development, testing, and design modifications.

Required Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of structural mechanics and material behavior.
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, etc.).
• Experience in FEA tools (ANSYS or equivalent).
• Expertise in drafting standards and detailed engineering drawings.
• Understanding of load calculations, vibration analysis, and environmental factors.
• Knowledge of fabrication processes and machining practices.
• Ability to work under strict quality and confidentiality requirements.

Educational Qualification:

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Masters degree preferred).
• 25+ years of relevant experience in structural design (Defence/Aerospace preferred).

Preferred Attributes:

• Experience in defence or aerospace equipment design.
• Familiarity with MIL standards or defence compliance requirements.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
