Job Description
We're looking for aMechanical Design Engineer Sheet Metal (1-3 yrs experience) to join ourLAIA Innovation Pvt. Ltd. team in Bangalore.
This role is forbuilders, not just CAD modelers you should have seen your designs being laser-cut, bent, welded and assembled in the real world.
If you've designed sheet-metal enclosures, cabinets, panels or kiosks that were actually fabricated, this role is for you.
Role & responsibilities
- Designsheet-metal enclosures for our automated delivery units (doors, inner frames, brackets, mounting plates, panels).
- UseSolidWorks / Solid Works sheet-metal tools to create 3D models, flat patterns, bend allowances, reliefs and corner treatments.
- Prepare complete2D production drawings with dimensions, tolerances, welding / fastening details and BOMs.
- Select and integratehinges, latches, locks, telescopic rails, linear guides, fasteners and gaskets for doors and moving mechanisms.
- Plan mounting and routing forPCBs, power supplies, sensors and wiring harnesses (cable entry, glands, grommets, strain relief).
- ApplyDFM / DFA / DFMA so parts are easy to manufacture and assemble using laser cutting, bending, welding and powder coating.
- Work closely withfabrication vendors / machine shops to solve manufacturability issues and iterate on prototypes.
- Support prototype assembly, perform fit-up checks, identify issues on the shop floor and update designs accordingly.
- Maintain organised CAD assemblies, drawings and revision history.
Required Candidate Profile
Education:
- Diploma / B.E / B.Tech inMechanical / Production / Industrial / Mechatronics (or similar).
Experience:
- 1-3 years as Mechanical Design Engineer / Design Engineer working onsheet-metal products (enclosures, cabinets, control panels, kiosks, EV chargers, machinery etc.).
- At leastone product you designed must have been actually manufactured not only academic projects.
Skills:
- Strong skills inSolidWorks (Sheet Metal, Part & Assembly) or equivalent 3D CAD.
- Good understanding ofsheet-metal fabrication : laser cutting, punching, bending, welding, powder coating.
- Experience preparing2D drawings, GD&T / tolerances, BOMs and production documentation .
- Basic knowledge offasteners and joints (screws, nuts, tapped holes, clearance holes, rivets, welds).
- Comfortable interacting withvendors and shop-floor teams , including communication inKannada and English .
Good to Have
- Experience inenclosure design for kiosks, lockers, control panels, ATMs, EV chargers or similar products.
- Exposure tosimple mechanisms (slides, guides, linkages, scissor / telescopic arrangements).
- Understanding ofIP protection, gaskets and seals for outdoor / semi-outdoor products.
- Experience inautomation / industrial equipment / AGV systems .
Important
This role isnot for pure 3D modelling only. We are specifically looking for an engineer who wants to see their designs becomereal hardware and is willing to learn and iterate with our fabrication partners.
