Job Description
Profile Overview
Role - Mechanical Design Engineer - Autonomous Industrial - Robotic Arm
Location: Bangalore South (Jigani)
Work mode: On-site
Experience: 1 5 years (Max)
Domain: Industrial Robotics / Autonomous Manipulation
Company Overview:
Rx100 Ventures is a sector-focused deep tech venture firm headquartered in Bangalore, India. We partner with startups at the intersection of industrial innovation, deep tech, and digital transformation, providing capital and strategic direction to accelerate their growth.
About the Role
Were building an Autonomous Industrial Robotic Arm in the 57 DOF range with payload <250 kg and hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to take hardware from concept CAD prototype validation production release. This is a hands-on role focused on precision mechanisms and joint module engineering, not general CAD drafting.
What Youll Do
- Design arm joints, links, housings/covers, and end-effector mechanical interfaces for a multi-DOF industrial arm
- Own joint module design: BLDC motor + harmonic/planetary gearbox integration, bearing/shaft/fastener sizing, housing architecture, sealing (IP-rated where required), thermal paths/heat sinking, and robust cable routing/strain relief
- Create production-grade engineering drawings: GD&T, datums, fits, tolerance stack-ups, and release packs (BOM + rev control)
- Support prototype builds and iteration cycles: assembly debugging, RCA, fixture/jig requirements, reliability improvements
- Drive DFM/DFA with suppliers (machining, sheet metal, castings, heat-treat, surface finishing), RFQs, and drawing clarifications
- Collaborate with controls/electronics/firmware teams on packaging constraints, sensor mounts, and mechatronic interfaces.
Must-Have Requirements
- B.E / B.Tech in Mechanical / Mechatronics / Robotics Engineering
- Minimum 1 plus years of mechanical design experience in robotics / industrial automation / precision machinery / mechatronics.
- Strong fundamentals: mechanisms, materials, manufacturing, fits & tolerances
- Proficiency in 3D CAD + drawings.
- CAD: Autodesk Fusion 360 / Autodesk Inventor and/or SolidWorks / Creo / NX.
- Drawings: GD&T, tolerance stack-up, datum strategy.
- Experience with actuator & transmission integration: motors/gearboxes, bearings, shafts, housings, fasteners.
- Primarily office-based role with hands-on, immersive work exposure.
- 6-day format designed to accelerate learning and responsibility.
Good-to-Have
- Experience with robot arms (57 axis), heavy/industrial manipulators, or servo-driven jointed mechanisms.
- Familiarity with harmonic drive / planetary gearbox / cycloidal concepts, encoder integration, lubrication, serviceability.
- Working knowledge of FEA/CAE (e.g., ANSYS or equivalent) for stiffness/deflection and basic modal checks.
- Exposure to IP sealing, thermal management around motors/drives, and production validation practices.
This Role Is NOT For
- Profiles limited to 2D drafting or architecture/interiors/civil CAD.
- Pure simulation-only roles without ownership of mechanical design deliverables.
- Freshers / Interns.
