Manager Buying– Mining & Heavy Equipment Industry

CLIENT: South Africa based global mining organization setting up base in India.Looking for Manager Buying with rich exposure in Mining equipment purchase , spares and consumables for multiple mining sites in SA.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Buyer with a strong engineering background and proven experience in the mining industry to manage procurement of heavy equipment, materials, spares, and services essential for coal mining operations. The role requires close collaboration with engineering and technical teams, deep market awareness, robust supplier management, and strong negotiation capabilities to ensure cost-effective, timely, and quality procurement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement & Sourcing

• Procure heavy mining equipment- Hydraulic excavators,Crushers, feeders, vibrating screens, -Reclaimer, components, consumables, and critical spares.
• Interpret technical specifications, drawings, and BOQs to ensure accurate sourcing.
• Prepare RFQs/RFPs, evaluate bids, and finalize procurement decisions.
• Ensure procurement aligns with operational timelines and budget targets.
• Manage end-to-end purchase cycle from requisition to delivery.

2. Technical Collaboration

• Work closely with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to understand technical requirements.
• Participate in technical evaluations and vendor discussions.
• Ensure compliance with safety, performance, and regulatory standards.

3. Supplier Evaluation & Vendor Management

• Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable suppliers and OEMs.
• Maintain and continuously update a strong vendor database.

4. Negotiation & Contract Management

• Lead commercial negotiations for pricing, payment terms, warranties, and delivery schedules.
• Draft and manage purchase orders and contracts.

5. Delivery Assurance

• Track deliveries and resolve delays proactively.
• Facilitate inspections, testing, and acceptance procedures.

Incumbent profile:

• Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Mining / Electrical preferred)
• Minimum 8 years of procurement experience in mining, coal, or heavy industry
• Proven experience in sourcing heavy equipment and critical spares.
• Strong understanding of mining equipment (e.g., excavators, dumpers, conveyors, crushers, drilling equipment).
• Ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of spare parts management and maintenance requirements.
• Excellent negotiation and commercial acumen
