Job Summary

Responsible for leading a team of Software Development Engineers in the planning and designing of software and web applications. Manages projects from design to testing, including new programs, enhancements and modifications. Collaborates with Quality Assurance team to conduct testing. Has overall responsibility for developing/administering performance standards for organizational unit. Manages team which may include exempt and non-exempt employees. Provides subject matter guidance to employees as required. Develops processes and procedures to drive department efficiencies and assists in the development and meeting of departmental budget.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage the operation team’s response to all application outages and incidents to ensure rapid response, escalation, resolution, and timely communications to senior leadership 

  • Coach, develop, and mentor team members as needed to keep them motivated, engaged, and performing at high levels 

  • Ensure operations team members and customers adhere to approved processes for managing application deployments, support tickets, production outages/impairments, Kanban boards, infrastructure builds, and application intake 

  • Ensure operational procedures, policies, and processes are maintained 

  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of data and metric systems to track operational workflows; maintain records of results and feedback; analyze data and metrics, identify problem areas, and provide actionable insight to leadership 

  • Oversee operations projects and programs, ensuring delivery dates and milestones are met; provide regular status updates to leadership 

  • Oversee regular patching of applications/systems to mitigate vulnerabilities; ensure that all maintenance activities are properly validated to minimize application impact 

  • Work with the development team and vendors to ensure defects and required enhancements are completed to improve application reliability and performance 

  • Work with development teams and application owners to ensure all applications comply with privacy, security, and accessibility requirements 

  • Make critical operational decisions (rollbacks, break fixes, failovers, etc.) during outages and/or impairments 

  • Consistently exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance 

  • Work with operations leadership to develop and implement technology roadmaps 

  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance; must be able to work nights, weekends, and variable schedule(s). 

Desirable skills: 

  • Leadership: Servant leadership, project management, people development, ITIL, Agile, program management, organizational change, conflict resolution 

  • Technical: Good understanding of relational databases, NoSQL databases, operating systems, cloud computing, web technologies, CI/CD, Jira, ServiceNow, ML/AI technologies, SaaS, DBaaS

  • DB: Oracle, MSSQL, MongoDB, MySQL 

  • OS: Windows Server, Linux (CentOS and Redhat) 

  • Cloud: AWS, Cloud Foundry, Azure 

  • CI/CD:Concourse, Jenkins, GIT 

  • Web: IIS, Apache, NGINX 

  • Other: ServiceNow,Jira, SharePoint, Power Platform, Workday, Kronos
