Manager, Primary research insights team

About this role:

Gartner’s Primary Research & Insights team (PRI) provides a high-quality primary research management and execution service. A Team Manager in Gartner’s PRI team is responsible for leading a team of market research project managers and data managers delivering both qualitative and quantitative research that provides Gartner experts with insight and meaning, enabling them to create fact-based research to validate and support Gartner positions, providing greater value for Gartner clients. Your team is responsible for:

  • Staying ahead of market research trends and explore/adopt new methodologies and/or technologies to help deliver projects to their stakeholders, through effective vendor management, field/project management, data cleaning and reviews, and results delivery
  • Define project scope, select an appropriate methodology, understand feasibility, set project schedules, and deliver the highest quality data.
  • Ensure surveys are field-ready and respondent-friendly
  • Manage third-party market research partners used for survey programming, sample sources and data collection

 What you’ll do: 

  • Cultivate the market research center of excellence; benchmark deliverables against industry best practices for continuous improvement and high impact; explore and identify new market research methodologies/innovation to provide fact-base
  • Link ROI/value to all market research initiatives, enabling investments in high impact projects that link to client retention, new business, etc.
  • Continuous evaluation and reflection whilst identifying opportunities for improvement to promote agility and provide high quality service
  • Manage nurture and develop a team of individual contributors focused on project management and data management
  • Foster a safe, engaging, innovative “no-limits mindset” and collaborative environment across direct reports, PRI overall and stakeholders
  • Exemplify and inspire leadership, contribute to results-focused teams and drive continuous improvement
  • Evolve talent and skills and assess needs for new roles/skills within primary research
  • Lead regular team meeting that encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and introducing discussion topics and/or guest speaker

**What you’ll need:

  • Undergraduate degree in market research, statistics, marketing, sociology, behavioral science, humanities or sciences or equivalent is required; advanced degree preferred
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in the market research industry, including end-to-end knowledge of how to effectively manage primary research qualitative and quantitative projects, from B2B or a consumer perspective
  • Strong track record of leadership in a work setting / managed teams of 5-10+ people is preferable
  • Experience in market research operations and project execution
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to coach others individually or as part of a team
  • Very strong communications skills and stakeholder management
  • Strong critical thinking & analytical and reasoning skills
  • Approach challenges with a solutions-based, constructive mentality and coach team to do the same
  • Good authoring, attention to detail and proof-reading ability
  • Expertise in MS Office skills, particularly Excel, PPT and Word. Familiarity with SPSS and Beacon are a plus

  • Use experiential knowledge as evidence and reasoning to guide stakeholders in making decisions and taking actions
  • Displays expertise in exploration and implementation of various data collection methods & data quality checks for primary research studies
