Purpose of the Job (WHY the Job Exists?)

Operational Purpose

To ensure uninterrupted production operations by performing timely preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities for all machinery and utilities.

Strategic Purpose

To contribute to operational excellence by improving machine reliability, optimizing equipment efficiency, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, and productivity.

Reports To: Maintenance Engineer

Internal Stakeholders: Production, Quality, Planning, Stores, EHS, and all shop floor employees

External Stakeholders: Machine suppliers, service engineers, spare parts vendors

Value Addition / Key Performance Areas (Results to be Delivered)

• Ensure minimum machine downtime and quick resolution of breakdowns.
• Execute preventive maintenance schedules and maintain proper documentation.
• Maintain all machinery, utilities, and supporting systems in optimum condition.
• Track and maintain spare parts inventory levels.
• Support continuous improvement projects to enhance equipment performance.
• Ensure adherence to all safety, statutory, and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities / High Payoff Activities

1. Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Perform routine, preventive, and predictive maintenance for industrial machinery.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation-related faults.
• Carry out timely repairs to ensure uninterrupted production.
• Maintain proper logs of daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities.

2. Preventive Maintenance

• Implement and adhere to preventive maintenance checklists and schedules.
• Identify wear-out components and initiate replacement proactively.
• Monitor machine health and support corrective actions to reduce recurring issues.

3. Utilities & Infrastructure Management

• Operate and maintain utilities including compressed air systems, cooling systems, electrical panels, and lighting.
• Ensure zero interruption in utility supply to the production floor.

4. Spare Parts & Documentation

• Maintain inventory of critical spares and raise requests for replenishment.
• Ensure accurate and systematic record-keeping of maintenance activities, breakdown reports, and spare parts consumption.

5. Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

• Follow all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements.
• Support internal audits and compliance checks.
• Participate in Kaizen, 5S, and other improvement initiatives to optimize machine uptime and performance.

6. On-Call Support

• Attend emergency breakdowns during shifts or off-hours as required.
• Provide timely support to minimize production delays.

Qualifications

Education / Technical Skills

• Diploma in Mechatronics / Electrical Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification).
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and industrial automation systems.
• Hands-on experience with maintenance tools, measuring instruments, and troubleshooting methods.
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems, documentation, and basic ERP entry (SAP preferred).
• Basic proficiency in MS Excel, documentation, and reporting.

Experience

• 1 to 3 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance.
• Proven experience in equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and utilities management.
• Exposure to automated production machinery preferred.
