Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Mainframe Consultant to lead and support mission-critical applications built on IBM Mainframe technologies. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, and CICS, and will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing legacy systems while contributing to modernization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Development

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of complex mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, and CICS.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into high-quality technical solutions.
• Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards.
• Optimize performance of batch and online programs.

System Analysis & Support

• Conduct impact analysis, root cause analysis, and provide production support for critical applications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in batch jobs, online transactions, and database queries.
• Monitor and tune DB2 queries and CICS transactions for optimal performance.

Project Management & Collaboration

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business analysts, QA, DevOps, and infrastructure teams.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and retrospectives.
• Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance.

Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare and maintain technical documentation including design specs, test plans, and user manuals.
• Ensure compliance with internal security policies and external regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Technical Expertise

• COBOL: Advanced proficiency in structured and object-oriented COBOL programming.
• DB2: Strong experience in writing and optimizing SQL queries, stored procedures, and database design.
• JCL: Expertise in job control language for batch processing and scheduling.
• VSAM: Deep understanding of file structures, access methods, and performance tuning.
• CICS: Experience in developing and maintaining online transaction processing systems.
• Assembler/AS400 good to know but not a must
• IMS/IDMS good to know but not a must

Tools & Platforms

• IBM z/OS, TSO/ISPF, Abend-AID, File-AID, ChangeMan/Endevor, Control-M, RACF.
• Familiarity with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines for mainframe environments is a plus.

Soft Skills

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Experience in mainframe modernization projects (e.g., API enablement, cloud integration).
• Exposure to Agile methodologies and tools like Jira, Confluence.
