Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Linux System Administrator with deep DNS expertise to join the supporting critical customer engagements. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys problem-solving, mentoring, and working on complex at-scale systems. You will partner closely with the customers DNS systems team to design, implement, operate, and improve highly available DNS platforms running in Linux and cloud environments.
Required Credentials
- Strong experience in networking fundamentals
- Formal education in Computer Networking, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience
- Proven experience supporting DNS systems in production environments
Required Qualifications
Technical Environment
- Linux: *RHEL and nix-based systems
- DNS: BIND, PowerDNS
- Automation & IaC: Terraform, Ansible
- Cloud Platforms: AWS and GCP
- Monitoring and alerting for infrastructure services
Coding & Development
- Experience coding or scripting in one or more of:
- Python, Perl, Golang, PHP, C++
- Ability to:
- Maintain and improve existing codebases (tools, automation, services)
- Develop new internal tools and solutions to support DNS operations
- Comfortable learning and working across multiple programming languages
Troubleshooting & Systems Knowledge
- Strong understanding of:
- *Linux/nix operating systems
- Networking protocols and packet flow
- System internals: process, memory, filesystem, and networking
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex DNS, system, and network issues
- Perform deep technical analysis to identify root causes and implement long-term fixes
Scope of Work & Key Responsibilities
DNS Operations & Engineering
- Operate, maintain, and support production DNS platforms at scale
- Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of DNS services
- Participate in the design, implementation, and daily operations of DNS systems
- Contribute improvements within established architectures
Troubleshooting & Incident Support
- Troubleshoot complex DNS, infrastructure, and network issues
- Support incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident remediation
- Collaborate across infrastructure, network, and application teams to resolve cross-domain issues
Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiency
- Develop scripts, tools, and automation to reduce manual effort
- Improve consistency and reliability of DNS operations
Monitoring, Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain and enhance monitoring, alerting, and system configurations
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and SOPs
- Support operational continuity and knowledge transfer
- Mentor and collaborate with peers in a supportive, team-oriented environment
Useful / Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- (or 5+ years of equivalent industry experience)
- Strong understanding of how and why packets flow through networks
- Experience operating large-scale or mission-critical DNS infrastructure
- Exposure to SRE, platform engineering, or large cloud environments
