Job Description

Role dimensions of a Senior Legal Counsel IP: - Contributing to the company’s innovation process, including interacting with inventors and business stakeholders for patentability assessment. - Drafting patent applications in software and electronics domain, handling office action responses and working with external patent counsel. - Searching patent databases and providing patentability and freedom to operate assessments. - Preparing and drafting specifications and claims for patent applications in the USPTO, EPO, Indian Patent Office and other jurisdictions. - Sensitizing and training technology teams about the patent application process as well as risks associated with patent infringement. - Translating complex Patent concepts to a language that engineers and senior management can easily understand to ensure cross-flow of education. - Keeping track of developments in IP laws and supporting the IP group’s evolving Patent policies, key metrics and governance processes

Ideal candidate should have: Essential skills: - A good understanding of US, EP & Indian Patent laws, as well as PCT and other regional/national patent prosecution practices - 3 to 5 years of in-house or law firm patent drafting & prosecution experience. - Patent searching skills are definite plus. - Candidates formally trained in Patent drafting will be preferred. - B.Tech/ M.Tech in Computer, Electronics or Electrical Engineering. Desired skills: - Person with strong action bias, who can work equally well independently or as a team, and who can think creatively and outside established norms. - Demonstrated knowledge of the software industry will be a definite plus. - Experience with patent licensing and related transactional work is a plus. - Enthusiastic approach to work and self-driven. - Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills. - Systematic attention to detail and follow-through.
