About the Role
Presidency Universitys Legal Aid Cell is committed to providing accessible legal assistance to underserved communities while promoting experiential learning among law students. We are looking for a passionate and service-driven Legal Aid Advocate to support our outreach, casework, legal awareness initiatives, and student mentoring activities.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Assistance & Case Handling
- Provide pro bono legal consultation to individuals seeking support through the Legal Aid Cell.
- Draft legal notices, petitions, applications, and other documents as required.
- Assist in preparing and filing cases before appropriate forums, where applicable.
- Work in coordination with legal services authorities, NGOs, and partner organisations.
Community Outreach & Legal Awareness
- Conduct legal awareness workshops, field visits, and community engagement programs.
- Develop simple, accessible legal literacy materials for the public.
Student Mentorship & Academic Support
- Guide law students in case analysis, drafting, client interviewing, and legal research.
- Supervise students during client interactions, documentation, and outreach activities.
Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities
- Maintain detailed records of cases, consultations, and community programs.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly reports for the University and Legal Services Authority.
- Support the planning and execution of legal aid camps and special drives.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelors Degree in Law (LL.B.); Masters in Law (LL.M.) is an advantage.
- Enrollment with the Bar Council and eligibility to practice.
- 15 years of experience in litigation, legal aid work, or community legal services (freshers with strong commitment may also apply).
- Strong drafting, research, and communication skills.
- Ability to mentor students and work collaboratively with diverse communities.
- Passion for social justice, access to justice, and legal empowerment.
