Role Description
This role is responsible for designing, building, and owning the core backend systems that power InLustros job-simulation platform. The Lead Software Engineer will implement and evolve server-side business logic that models real-world workflows, decisions, and outcomes; design clean data models and APIs that remain stable as product requirements change; and build extensible engines rather than hard-coded flows. The role is deeply hands-on, with direct ownership of production reliability, deployments, debugging, and technical trade-offs around performance, correctness, scalability, and development speed, while working closely with the founders to translate ambiguous product ideas into concrete, durable system architecturewithout formal people-management responsibilities.
Qualifications
- 812+ years of hands-on experience building and running real production software used by paying customers
- Has personally designed and built a backend system where core business logic lives on the server , not just CRUD APIs
- Experience working on products where user actions lead to different outcomes (rules, conditions, states, scoring, approvals, workflows, etc.)
- Strong ability to break messy, real-world problems into clear technical components and data models
- Deep proficiency in at least one backend language (Node.js, Python, Java, Go, or similar) with clean, readable code
- Comfortable designing APIs and databases that continue to work even as product requirements change frequently
- Has owned software in production, including deployments, monitoring, debugging failures, and fixing issues under pressure
- Experience making hard technical trade-offs that affected product speed, reliability, or future flexibility
- Able to work directly with founders and product leaders to turn vague ideas into concrete systems
- Known for being the engineer others turn to when decisions are unclear or stakes are high
- Experience guiding code quality and technical direction without managing a team
- Comfortable starting as a hands-on individual contributor, with responsibility expanding as the company grows
