Job Description
Role Overview
The Quality Lead will be responsible for owning end-to-end quality for mattress products, ensuring consistent product performance, customer satisfaction, and compliance with internal and external standards. This role will work closely with manufacturing, R&D, sourcing, and customer experience teams to drive continuous quality improvement across materials, processes, and finished goods.
Key Responsibilities
Product & Process Quality
- Define and implement quality standards for mattresses, foams, fabrics, adhesives, and finished products
- Ensure adherence to quality checkpoints across incoming materials, in-process manufacturing, and final inspection
- Establish SOPs, control plans, and quality documentation for mattress production lines
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues
Supplier & Material Quality
- Own supplier quality assurance for raw materials (foam, fabric, springs, adhesives, packaging)
- Conduct supplier audits and approvals in collaboration with sourcing teams
- Drive material testing and validation as per defined specifications
Testing & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (IS, ISO, ASTM, fire safety, durability, comfort performance, etc.)
- Oversee lab testing (internal and external) for comfort, firmness, durability, compression, and fatigue testing
- Maintain all quality and compliance documentation
Customer Feedback & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze customer complaints, returns, and field failure data to identify systemic issues
- Partner with CX and product teams to close the loop on quality improvements
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen) to reduce defects and variability
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Build, mentor, and manage quality inspectors and engineers on the shop floor
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, R&D, supply chain, and product teams
- Act as the quality champion across the organization
Key Metrics / KPIs
- Defect rate (PPM / % defects)
- Customer complaint and return rate
- First-pass yield (FPY)
- Supplier quality performance
- Cost of poor quality (COPQ)
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Polymer, or related field)
- 8+ years of experience in quality roles within mattress, foam,
- Strong understanding of foam technologies, mattress construction, and comfort parameters (preferred)
- Hands-on experience with quality tools (FMEA, SPC, RCA, 8D, CAPA)
- Experience working in fast-growing manufacturing environments
