Job Description

You’ll be our: Lead - Manufacturing Engineering Process

You’ll be based at: Hosur Factory

You’ll be Aligned with: Head Manufacturing Engineering Process

You’ll be a member of: Manufacturing Engineering - Assembly

What you’ll do at Ather:

  • Lead all manufacturing engineering activities for lithium-ion battery production, focusing on process optimization and line efficiency.

  • Ensure all the battery lines (NMC & LFP) are up and running with full efficiency.

  • Deep Dive into daily issues and solve them through a structured approach.

  • Optimize processes: Continuously identify areas for improvement and implement resolutions to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. For example, analyze cycle times on critical machines like laser/spot welding machines and electrolyte filling machines to find bottlenecks and increase throughput.

  • Manage change requests (CR): Evaluate the impact of changes on the battery assembly process and implement them effectively to maintain compliance and quality.

  • Maintain comprehensive logs: Track all ongoing issues from identification to final closure. This includes documenting problems with equipment, materials, or operator procedures.

  • Safety Procedures: Deep understanding of hazardous material handling, use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and emergency response protocols.

  • Electrical Diagnostics: Proficiency with tools like multimeters and oscilloscopes for measuring electrical properties within battery packs.

  • Battery Management System (BMS) Knowledge: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to the BMS, which controls the battery's health and safety.

  • Mechanical Assembly: Skill in the careful disassembly, reassembly, and proper torquing of battery components and enclosures.

  • Software and Data Analysis: Competence in using diagnostic software to analyze battery data, perform firmware updates, and log maintenance activities.

  • Component Replacement: Expertise in safely identifying and replacing faulty cells, modules, or other components within a battery pack.

  • Thermal Management System Maintenance: Knowledge of how to service and maintain the cooling or heating systems that regulate battery temperature.

  • Preventive Maintenance: Skill in performing routine checks and tests to identify and resolve potential issues before they lead to system failure.

  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure a "First Time Right" approach for all new battery product introductions (NPIs).

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (CFTs) to resolve issues related to manufacturing processes, cycle time, and quality.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Manufacturing Engineering team and other departments to coordinate the implementation of process improvements.

  • Conduct virtual and physical builds to validate battery assembly processes before they go live, identifying and mitigating potential issues early on.

  • Work with suppliers to review new projects and ensure alignment with manufacturing requirements.

  • Convert Engineering Bills of Material (EBOM) into Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOM) to ensure a seamless transition from battery design to production.

  • Actively participate in creating Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and Control Plans to establish robust processes for battery manufacturing.

  • Implement Poka-Yoke techniques to minimize operator errors and improve product quality on the battery lines.

  • Identify and procure necessary equipment, tooling, and material handling facilities for manual and automated battery processes.

  • Manage the Change Request (CR) process, evaluating the impact of changes on battery manufacturing and implementing them effectively.

  • Ensure all battery manufacturing processes, equipment, and products comply with relevant safety standards and legal regulations.

  • Continuously identify opportunities for improvement to enhance efficiency and reduce costs in battery production.

  • Manage a team of 4-5 people and own the delivery

  • Need to find & drive the improvement projects .
