Lead Engineer

Lead Engineer – Senior Automation Test Engineer – Playwright / Rest Assured + Js/ TypeScript/Java (6–8 years) 

About the Role 

The Senior Automation Test Engineer is responsible for defining and executing automation test strategies for enterprise applications. The role focuses on building robust automation frameworks using Playwright, Java, Js/Type Script and PlayWright, ensuring high-quality releases, driving defect prevention, and leading test planning across distributed teams. The engineer also collaborates closely with developers and POs to ensure requirement clarity and end‑to‑end test coverage. 

Required Skills  

• API testing (RestAssured/Postman/Newman).  

• Strong hands‑on experience in Automation Testing (UI + API).  

• Expertise in Playwright (preferred), Java/Js/TypeScript based API automation.  

• Ability to design scalable test automation frameworks (hybrid/keyword/data-driven).  

• Solid understanding of CI/CD, Jenkins, Git, test reporting, and debugging tools.  

• Good understanding of SDLC/STLC, quality gates, and defect prevention.  

• Capable of mentoring junior QA engineers and conducting code reviews.  

• Basic working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred).  

• Experience integrating automation in pipelines for continuous testing.  

• Knowledge of performance testing tools (JMeter/Gatling) is a plus.  

Responsibilities   

• Requirement Clarification  
  Act as a liaison with Product Owners, and technical teams to ensure test scenarios match business intent. Provide requirement clarifications during offshore/overlap hours to maintain uninterrupted delivery.  

• Backlog & Test Planning  
  Participate in grooming sessions, refine acceptance criteria, create comprehensive test cases, and ensure automation coverage is included in sprint planning.  

• Automation Framework Ownership  
  Enhance and maintain automation frameworks using Playwright and Type Script. Implement reusable components, utilities, and test accelerators.  

• Execution & Reporting  
  Execute automated regression suites, analyze failures, evaluate trends, and report test results with actionable insights.  

• Defect Identification & RCA  
  Identify defects early, drive root cause analysis, and collaborate with developers to ensure permanent fixes.  

• UAT & Business Support  
  Support business users during UAT cycles with test clarifications and quick defect triage.  

• Documentation & Best Practices  
  Maintain test documentation, test data strategies, automation guidelines, and reusable templates.  

• AI‑Assisted Quality Engineering  
  Use AI tools like GitHub Copilot, Playwright’s AI-assisted locators, and test generators to accelerate script creation, refactoring, and documentation.  

• Continuous Improvement  
  Drive improvements in automation maturity, test coverage, and overall sprint quality metrics.

Qualifications  

• 6–8 years in QA with at least 4 years of automation experience.  

• Strong coding proficiency in Java/Js/TypeScript with automation mindset.
