Lead DevOps Engineer

Your role:
As a Lead DevOps Engineer at UrbanPiper, you will be part of the Infra/DevOps team that spearheads our infrastructure initiatives to ensure optimal scalability, availability, security, and cost-efficiency. You will collaborate closely with our head of Infrastructure and cross-functional teams to automate deployment pipelines and enhance our cloud infrastructure's reliability and with security and cost optimization in mind.

You will:

• Lead efforts to optimise UrbanPiper's workflows by improving scalability, availability, security, and cost-effectiveness.
• Contribute to developing strategic direction for the UpbanPiper’s DevOps initiatives.
• Work closely with the Site Reliability team to minimise downtime and ensure seamless operations.
• Develop automation solutions using industry-standard tools to streamline service deployment.
• Regularly audit infrastructure metrics and logs to identify anomalies and implement fixes.
• Plan and execute technical projects that improve system architecture and service delivery.
• Maintaining our compliance by monitoring and taking actions based on recommendations from our Continuous Security & Compliance Platform
• Collaborate with development teams to design robust cloud architectures for new products.

We are looking for someone who has/is:

• Experienced: Minimum of 2 years in application/product development and 5 years in DevOps or infrastructure management.
• Advanced Cloud Expertise: Proficiency with AWS primarily is essential.
• Experienced in Container Technologies: Experience with Kubernetes (AWS EKS), Docker, ECS, and serverless architectures. 
• Experience in managing a large scale k8s deployment.
• Database Management: Skilled in scaling large-scale setups of both relational (MySQL) and NoSQL databases.
• Operating Systems: Strong Unix/Linux experience.
• Scripting Skills: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell, Perl, or Python.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot under pressure effectively.
• Documentation Skills: Strong writing skills with an emphasis on documenting processes and projects.
• Advanced experience with setting up observability in different environments. (AWS Cloudwatch, Prometheus, Grafana etc…)
• Has experience building complex environments with reliability and cost efficiency in mind. 
• Strong proficiency in Kubernetes ecosystem technologies including:   
  ○  Extensive experience creating and managing Helm charts for application packaging and deployment
  ○  Hands-on experience with ArgoCD for GitOps-based continuous delivery in k8s environments.
  ○  Familiarity with k8s manifest files, including deployments, services and ingress resources.
• Demonstrated skills in troubleshooting and optimising k8s based infrastructures.

Good to have:

• Experience in a high-growth startup environment.
• Familiarity with DevOps tools such as AWS CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, Codepipeline, Terraform, SonarQube, Ansible, etc.
• Knowledge of task queue frameworks like Celery or Pika.
• Experience with implementing and managing Karpenter for Kubernetes cluster autoscaling
• Practical knowledge of Istio’s traffic management, security and observability features.
