About the Hiring Function
The Product & Technology (P&T) function drives newsroom transformation by integrating AI-powered solutions, automation, and smart tools to enhance content creation and streamline workflows. By optimizing newsroom operations and improving collaboration, P&T enables journalists to focus on delivering high-quality, timely news. The function also leverages data analytics and AI-driven tools to enhance audience engagement across print, digital, and emerging platforms. About the Position
The Business Analytics & Data Science Lead is a critical role responsible for supporting data-driven decision-making across the entire Editorial functions, consumer-facing applications, & Generative AI-led products. This individual will collaborate closely with leadership to understand business KPIs, identify systems that generate related data, and create/leverage Data layers to provide stakeholders with operational dashboards, descriptive insights, and recommendations. The ideal candidate will be proficient with advanced Power BI or Tableau, understand data ingestion and transformation, and be able to provide suggestions and actionable insights to stakeholders. Additionally, the role will play a key role in building generative AI use cases across editorial functions.
Roles & Responsibilities: -
- Data Engineering
- Define, develop and implement data pipelines to ingest data from multiple systems.
- Identify Editorial data requirements and create a scalable solution that ensures data is readily available for Editorial teams to conduct in-depth analysis.
- Advanced Data Analysis and Insights
- Conduct in-depth analysis of content data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas of concern.
- Develop predictive models to identify process bottlenecks and create standard operational reports, anomaly reports, and alerts.
- Use data to inform the product roadmap, operational planning, and the adoption of Generative AI tools.
- Own data governance and data lifecycle related to editorial functions.
- AI Implementation:
- Lead the implementation of AI tools and techniques across editorial functions to enhance data-driven decision-making and automation.
- Stay current on AI trends and technologies to deliver innovative solutions that enhance the editorial functions analytical capabilities.
Key Requirements:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's/masters degree in business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 6-10 years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, Data engineering & Data science.
- Experienced in doing 0-1 journey to build data pipeline, data layers, consumption layers and enabling business team to start leveraging data.
- Strong background in data-driven decision-making and performance metrics.
- Technical Skills:
- Advance Data transformation skills using Python, Kafka, SQL, BigQuery, Redshift, Airflow and cloud offerings of AWS or GCP.
- Expertise in data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau to create interactive reports and dashboards.
- Familiarity with AI/ML algorithms for both supervised and unsupervised learning
- Analytical & Communication Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to derive actionable insights from complex datasets.
- Excellent communication skills to present complex data in a clear, concise manner to leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
- Project Management & Collaboration:
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to define and fulfil reporting and data needs.
