Location

India Project Site Based (with travel across India)

Office base: Mumbai (Travelling to site as per the project requirements)

Role Objective

The BESS Integration Lead will be responsible for on-site integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems with the grid , covering Installation & Commissioning (I&C), EMS implementation, testing, SAT, and grid compliance . The role ensures safe, compliant, and reliable commissioning of utility-scale BESS projects in coordination with OEMs, EPCs, and grid authorities.

Key Responsibilities

BESS Integration & Commissioning

• Lead end-to-end site integration of BESS including batteries, PCS, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and grid interface
• Manage Installation & Commissioning (I&C) activities for containerized BESS systems
• Ensure proper integration of BESS with grid, renewable plants, and auxiliary systems

EMS, SCADA & Controls

• Implement and validate EMS functionality including:
• Charge/discharge control
• Peak shaving, frequency regulation, and dispatch logic
• Grid compliance and communication with SCADA / SLDC systems
• Coordinate OT/IT integration, communication protocols, and cybersecurity requirements as per CEA guidelines

Testing, SAT & Grid Compliance

• Lead Testing & Commissioning (T&C) including:
• Pre-commissioning checks, MIRU, insulation resistance, functional testing
• SAT, performance tests, response time tests, and trial runs
• Ensure compliance with:
• Indian Grid Codes and CEA regulations
• Fault Ride Through (FRT), protection coordination, islanding, black start (where applicable)
• Support grid synchronization and approvals from DISCOMs / SLDCs

Engineering & Technical Support

• Review and validate:
• Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
• Protection schemes and control philosophy
• Support load flow, short circuit, and dynamic simulations (in coordination with engineering teams)
• Assist BD and project teams during technical clarifications, tender evaluations, and compliance documentation

Safety & Standards

• Ensure compliance with:
• Battery safety standards (UL9540A, IEC 62933, IEC 62619)
• Fire detection and suppression systems
• Electrical and site safety practices
• Drive safe commissioning practices and permit-to-work systems on site

Stakeholder Coordination

• Act as primary technical interface on site with:
• OEMs (cell, PCS, EMS)
• EPC partners
• DISCOMs, SLDCs, and third-party inspectors
• Coordinate issue resolution to meet project timelines and performance benchmarks

Required Qualifications & Experience

Experience

• 712 years of experience in:
• BESS, power systems, grid integration, or renewable energy projects
• Hands-on experience in utility-scale BESS commissioning and grid integration is mandatory
• Experience working with Indian DISCOMs / SLDCs is strongly preferred

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of:
• BESS system architecture (battery sizing, PCS, HVAC, fire systems)
• EMS, SCADA, protection systems, and grid interface
• Familiarity with Indian regulatory framework for BESS applications:
• Renewable integration
• Frequency regulation
• Peak shaving / capacity support

Tools & Standards

• Experience with power system studies tools (ETAP / PSCAD / DIgSILENT working knowledge acceptable)
• Knowledge of CEA regulations, grid codes, and safety standards

Education

• BE / BTech in Electrical Engineering (mandatory)
• MTech in Power Systems (preferred)
