Job Description Summary
The Lead Application Engineer will be working to define requirements , enhance product features for a 61850 compliant system configuration tool, working together with engineers based inHVDC Stafford/UK and other global locations. The role is accountable for business critical
NPI software development in order to meet product requirements and timelines for future
commercial HVDC (High Voltage DC) projects.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
- Drive sustenance and feature enhancement of 61850 configuration tool
- Stay updated with latest development in this protocol and its applications
- Define requirement and coordinate development of features with the SW developers
Integrate software packages with existing systems and sub-systems.
• Prepare unit test and regression test specification, packages and templates.
• Support software release testing
• Interact with a multi-discipline engineering team to meet the project
requirements throughout its life cycle.
• Prepare formal and informal engineering documentation (e.g. Design documents, requirement specifications, Release reports, etc.)
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or above in, Technology or Engineering.
- 6 to 8 years of hands-on experience of working with 61850 protocol
Experience with TCP/IP protocols like DNP3, IEC104/101, used in Substation Automation domain.
- 61850 standards awareness, working experience with IEC 61850 multi-vendor devices
- Knowledge on UCA (Utility Communications architecture) test procedures and test tools like Wireshark/MMS client tools
- Experience with IEC 61850 9-2 Process Bus Implementation
- Experience with time synchronization protocols like PTP, IRIG-B and,
- Understanding on redundancy protocols like PRP, HSR
Exposure to Embedded C/C++, Matlab/Simulink (and/or other auto-coded
controls software)
• Experience with 61850 Configuration tools (Helinks STS preferred)
• Familiarity with modern cybersecurity constructs (e.g.Static Analysis, Digital
Signatures etc.)
• Strong can-do attitude and energy level
