JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Description: Kubernetes Engineer for Batch Control M Build & Migration Support

Role Summary

The Kubernetes Engineer supports the migration of ControlMtriggered workloads running on onprem Kubernetes clusters into Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) as part of the cloud migration program. The role focuses on containerizing workloads where needed, preparing AKS environments, deploying workloads, validating job execution, and ensuring smooth operational transition. The engineer works closely with ControlM teams, application owners, and cloud engineers to ensure stable, reliable, and secure execution of batch workloads in Azure.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in migrating ControlMexecuted workloads from onprem Kubernetes clusters to AKS.
• Deploy and manage workloads on AKS using Kubernetes manifests (Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets).
• Containerize applications or scripts where required for AKS compatibility.
• Support ControlM teams in validating job execution, dependencies, and runtime behaviour in AKS.
• Troubleshoot pod failures, container issues, and basic networking problems.
• Work with cloud teams to configure AKS namespaces, RBAC, and resource policies.
• Maintain YAML manifests, Helm charts (if used), and deployment templates.
• Assist in CI/CD setup for container deployments using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
• Monitor AKS workloads using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and container insights.
• Document migration steps, deployment procedures, and operational runbooks.

Required Skills

• Handson experience with Kubernetes (deployments, services, pods, logs, troubleshooting).
• Basic experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or any managed Kubernetes platform.
• Good understanding of Docker and container fundamentals.
• Ability to work with Kubernetes YAML manifests and basic Helm usage.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
• Basic scripting skills (Shell, PowerShell, or Python) for automation and debugging.
• Understanding of how batch jobs or scheduled workloads run in container environments.
• Knowledge of monitoring and logging for containerized workloads.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
• Good communication and documentation skills for working with crossfunctional teams.

NicetoHave Skills

• Exposure to ControlM or other enterprise schedulers.
• Experience migrating workloads from VMs to containers.
• Understanding of Azure networking basics (VNets, NSGs, ingress).
• Familiarity with DevSecOps practices (image scanning, vulnerability checks).
• Experience with Azure Container Registry (ACR).
• Kubernetes certifications (CKA/CKAD) or Azure certifications (AZ104, AZ900).
