Managing Consultant - Travel, Leisure & Hospitality (TLH)
Key Responsibilities
Engagement Leadership & Delivery
- Lead end-to-end delivery of TLH consulting and transformation engagements, managing scope, timelines, budgets, risks, and client expectations
- Serve as the day-to-day engagement lead, acting as the primary point of contact for client project sponsors and steering committees
- Drive workstream planning, resource allocation, and team coordination across onshore, offshore, and partner teams
- Ensure delivery quality through structured governance, milestone reviews, and proactive issue resolution
- Own engagement financials including forecasting, utilization management, and margin tracking
- Champion outcome-based delivery approaches, tying project milestones to measurable business KPIs such as RevPAR, ancillary revenue per guest, loyalty program ROI, and cost per available seat mile (CASM)
Domain Expertise & Solution Design
- Bring strong understanding of TLH industry value chains , from product/experience design and distribution through operations, guest engagement, and post-trip/post-stay lifecycle management
- Contribute to solution design and architecture for TLH-specific business challenges, working alongside senior architects and domain leaders
- Apply domain knowledge across key TLH functional areas such as:
- Revenue Management & Pricing , dynamic pricing, demand forecasting, inventory optimization, fare/rate management, total revenue management
- Distribution & Channel Strategy , GDS modernization, direct channel optimization, NDC/ONE Order (airlines), OTA/metasearch strategy, channel cost management
- Guest/Passenger Experience , digital guest journey design, mobile-first engagement, contactless operations, personalization at scale
- Loyalty & Customer Engagement , loyalty platform modernization, coalition/partner loyalty models, customer data platforms (CDP), lifetime value optimization
- Operations & Asset Management , property management systems (PMS), crew/fleet management, F&B operations, housekeeping optimization, IoT-enabled facilities management
- Reservations & Booking Platforms , PSS modernization (airlines), CRS/PMS transformation (hotels), booking engine optimization
- Data & Analytics , guest 360 platforms, predictive analytics for demand/no-show/cancellation, sentiment analysis, operational intelligence
- Enterprise Platform Implementations , cloud migration, ERP modernization (SAP, Oracle), CRM transformation (Salesforce)
- Develop and refine domain-specific deliverables, frameworks, templates, and reusable accelerators that improve delivery efficiency and quality
Client Advisory & Stakeholder Management
- Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders at the director, senior director, and VP levels
- Facilitate discovery workshops, requirements gathering sessions, current-state assessments, and future-state design sessions
- Translate business requirements into actionable solution recommendations, clearly articulating trade-offs and expected outcomes
- Provide advisory guidance on TLH industry trends and their implications, including:
- Post-pandemic travel recovery patterns and shifting consumer expectations
- Rise of experiential travel, bleisure, and wellness tourism
- Sustainability and ESG imperatives (carbon offsetting, sustainable aviation fuel, waste reduction)
- AI/ML adoption in revenue management, dynamic packaging, and hyper-personalization
- Labor shortages and workforce transformation in hospitality
- Evolving regulatory landscape (data privacy, accessibility, health/safety mandates)
- Consolidation and M&A activity across airlines, hotel groups, and travel intermediaries
- Present findings, recommendations, and progress updates to client leadership with clarity and executive presence
Business Development Support
- Support Partners and Senior Managers in identifying and pursuing new TLH opportunities within existing and target accounts
- Contribute to proposal development, RFP/RFI responses, solution sizing, and effort estimation for TLH pursuits
- Participate in orals presentations and client pitch meetings, representing domain credibility and delivery confidence
- Identify account expansion opportunities during active engagements and communicate them to account leadership
- Support pipeline development through participation in industry events (e.g., HITEC, Phocuswright, IATA events, ALIS), alliance partner activities, and client networking
Practice Development & Team Leadership
- Mentor and coach consultants and senior consultants on TLH domain knowledge, consulting skills, and professional development
- Lead by example in fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and client-centricity
- Contribute to TLH practice development initiatives including:
- Building domain training curricula and knowledge repositories
- Developing thought leadership content (whitepapers, point-of-view documents, case studies)
- Creating reusable assets, industry playbooks, and solution blueprints
- Collaborate with adjacent industry practices (Retail, Transportation & Logistics, Media & Entertainment) to share knowledge and identify cross-industry opportunities
- Support recruiting efforts by participating in interviews and candidate evaluations for TLH practice roles
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 8-16 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 5 years focused on the Travel, Leisure & Hospitality industry
- 3+ years in a consulting engagement lead, managing consultant, or equivalent role within a consulting firm, systems integrator, or technology services company
- Demonstrated track record of leading and delivering complex consulting or transformation engagements ($2M-$15M) in the TLH space
- Hands-on experience across at least two of the following TLH functional areas:
- Revenue Management & Pricing (airlines, hotels, cruise, gaming)
- Distribution & Channel Strategy (GDS, NDC, direct channels, OTA management)
- Guest/Passenger Experience & Digital Transformation
- Loyalty & Customer Data Platforms
- Reservations, PSS, or PMS Modernization
- Operations & Asset Management (property, fleet, crew, F&B)
- Data, Analytics & AI in TLH contexts
- Enterprise Platforms (ERP, CRM, cloud migration)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at the director-to-VP level
- Proven engagement management capabilities including scope management, financial tracking, risk mitigation, and team leadership
- Ability to translate complex business requirements and technology capabilities into clear, actionable recommendations
- Solid understanding of TLH operating models, KPIs, and value drivers (e.g., RevPAR, ADR, occupancy, RASM, CASM, load factor, ancillary revenue, guest satisfaction scores, loyalty program penetration)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured, hypothesis-driven approach
- Experience managing cross-functional and geographically distributed delivery teams
- Comfortable working in ambiguous environments and adapting to evolving client needs
- Strong workshop facilitation and presentation skills
Education
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred
- Relevant industry or technology certifications are a plus (e.g., CHIA - Certified Hospitality Industry Analyst, PMP, SAFe, cloud certifications, IATA certifications)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior operating experience within a TLH company (e.g., in a strategy, digital, revenue management, operations, or commercial role) is highly valued
- Experience across TLH sub-segments: airlines, hotels & resorts, cruise lines, travel intermediaries/OTAs, theme parks & attractions, gaming & casinos, food service & restaurants
- Familiarity with industry standards and frameworks (e.g., HTNG, OpenTravel, IATA NDC/ONE Order, HFTP/HITEC, STR benchmarking)
- Experience with Agile and hybrid delivery methodologies in enterprise transformation contexts
- Familiarity with data and analytics platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Power BI, Tableau) in TLH use cases
- Experience working on engagements across multiple geographies, particularly in regions with high travel & hospitality density (North America, Europe, Middle East, Asia-Pacific)
Location & Travel
- This role can be based in any major office location
- Travel requirement: 40-60%, including client site visits and industry events
- Flexibility for remote work when not traveling
