Role Overview
Bloomsbury Publishing India is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Head Trade Sales to lead and grow its consumer business across channels and formats. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving revenue growth, strengthening market presence, and building high-performing sales teams, while working closely with internal stakeholders and the Bloomsbury UK team to deliver sustainable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Revenue Leadership
- Achieve monthly and annual revenue targets for the Consumer Division.
- Prepare, manage, and track annual budgets, forecasts, and business plans.
- Analyze sales performance, market trends, and data to drive growth and profitability.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and motivate regional sales teams to deliver strong and consistent performance.
- Build a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance culture.
- Act as a fearless leader with high integrity and ethics, inspiring teams to go the extra mile.
Product, Editorial & Market Inputs
- Provide commercial and market-led inputs on upcoming titles, including feedback on manuscripts, in collaboration with editorial and product teams.
- Assess market potential, pricing, formats, and scale for proposed titles.
- Identify titles from the Bloomsbury UK catalogue that are best suited for the Indian market and capable of delivering strong unit sales.
Channel & Relationship Management
- Build and strengthen relationships with key offline retailers, distributors, and trade partners.
- Manage and grow relationships with major ecommerce platforms including Amazon, Flipkart, Cocoblu, and other key sellers.
- Maintain strong working relationships with the Bloomsbury UK counterparts to align publishing and sales strategies.
Marketing Collaboration
- Provide sales-led insights and input to the Marketing team to support campaigns and improve reach and sales-through.
- Guide and support marketing initiatives with market intelligence and consumer insights.
Inventory & Operations
- Oversee inventory planning, stock analysis, and regular reviews to ensure optimal stock availability and minimal ageing.
- Manage agency operations including imports, reprints, pricing, and stock flow.
- Ensure efficient credit control, collections, and adherence to financial processes.
Governance & Market Protection
- Actively address and combat piracy across ecommerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and best practices.
Candidate Profile
Essential Requirements
- Graduate/Post-graduate from a recognized university.
- Minimum 12-15 years of experience with a reputed Trade Publishing company.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar senior sales leadership role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Above-average proficiency in MS Excel.
Skills & Competencies
- Hands-on professional with strong business acumen, sales, and presentation skills.
- Deep understanding of the trade publishing business and consumer buying behaviour.
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and a strategic, future-focused outlook.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
- Product management experience will be an added advantage.
