Head Operations & Maintenance (O&M)

Reporting to: Managing Director / Group COO
Role Type: Leadership | P&L Ownership | Multi-Site Operations
Role Summary
The Head O&M will own and lead all Operations & Maintenance contracts across the Navin Group, including CFS, ICD, port, and logistics infrastructure operations .
This role carries end-to-end P&L responsibility for all O&M contracts and is accountable for contract development, execution, governance, profitability, and scalability .
The role requires a strong blend of:
- Contract execution & control , and
- Operational leadership across complex, manpower-intensive sites
Deep CFS/ICD/port exposure is preferred; however, exceptional contract-driven leaders with proven multi-site O&M control will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities1. O&M Strategy & Leadership
- Lead the O&M division across all contract-based operations.
- Define the operating philosophy, governance framework, and execution standards for all sites.
- Build, mentor, and lead Resident Managers, Site Heads, and Cluster Leads .
- Act as the final escalation authority for all operational and client matters.
- Ensure zero dependency on promoters for day-to-day escalation resolution.
2. Contract Ownership & Control (Core Focus)
- Own end-to-end contract lifecycle :
- Mobilisation
- Execution
- Performance management
- Renewals / exits
- Ensure strict adherence to contract scope, SLAs, penalties, and obligations .
- Drive contract hygiene :
- Scope protection
- Variation control
- Change-order governance
- Act as the custodian of commercial discipline across all O&M contracts.
3. Multi-Site Operations Oversight
- Oversee operations across multiple geographies and sites , including:
- CFS / ICDs
- Port-based yards and terminals
- Large manpower-driven O&M contracts
- Standardize site operating models while allowing for local flexibility.
- Ensure consistent service delivery, productivity, safety, and compliance.
4. P&L Ownership & Financial Performance
- Full responsibility for site-wise and consolidated O&M P&L .
- Drive profitability through:
- Manpower optimisation
- Vendor cost control
- Productivity improvement
- Leakage prevention
- Review monthly financials, variance analysis, and corrective actions.
- Work closely with Finance to ensure accurate billing, cost recognition, and cash flow.
5. Process, SOPs & Governance
- Design and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) across all sites.
- Establish daily, weekly, and monthly MIS frameworks .
- Drive internal audits, safety audits, and compliance checks.
- Ensure adherence to:
- HR and labour laws
- Safety standards
- Statutory and client-mandated requirements
6. Site Mobilisation & Scale-Up
- Lead new contract mobilisation from award to steady-state operations.
- Ensure readiness across:
- Infrastructure
- Manpower
- Systems
- Vendor onboarding
- Build a scalable O&M platform to support future growth in ports and logistics.
7. Client Relationship Management
- Maintain senior-level relationships with key clients.
- Participate in performance reviews, escalation meetings, and renewal discussions.
- Ensure client confidence through predictable delivery and professional governance .
Skills & CompetenciesFunctional
- Strong experience in multi-site O&M / contract operations .
- Deep understanding of contract execution, SLAs, penalties, and commercial controls .
- Exposure to CFS, ICD, ports, logistics parks, or large infrastructure O&M preferred.
- Proven ability to run manpower-intensive operations with discipline.
Financial & Commercial
- Strong P&L ownership mindset.
- Ability to read and challenge site-level financials.
- Experience in cost-plus and SLA-based contract models.
Systems & Tools
- Strong proficiency in Excel and MIS dashboards.
- Comfortable with task trackers, audit systems, and reporting frameworks.
- Ability to institutionalize data-driven decision-making.
Leadership & Behavioural
- Strong people leadership across geographies.
- High crisis-handling and decision-making capability.
- Ability to balance client demands with commercial discipline.
- Structured, process-driven, and low-ego leadership style.
Qualifications
- Graduate in any discipline.
- Engineering / MBA preferred.
- Continuous career progression in operations leadership roles.
Experience
- 1218 years in operations leadership roles.
- Prior responsibility for multiple sites / contracts is mandatory.
- Experience in ports, CFS, ICD, warehousing, facility management, logistics, or infrastructure O&M strongly preferred.
