Head of Operations

Job Summary

The Head of Operations will serve as the chief operational leader for a high-volume, integrated Stainless Steel

manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for overseeing the entire production lifecycle from raw material

intake to finished goods dispatch. The primary objective is to drive world-class operational performance, ensuring

the plant meets all targets related to safety, quality, production volume, cost efficiency, and timely delivery in a

competitive market environment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Production Leadership:

Develop and execute strategic operational plans to optimize stainless steel production processes, enhance

efficiency, and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs).

Drive continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma) across all operational

departments, including melting shops, rolling mills, finishing lines, and logistics.

Monitor market trends and technological advancements in stainless steel production to maintain a competitive

edge and optimize product mix.

Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ):

Champion a zero-harm safety culture, ensuring strict adherence to all safety regulations, environmental

compliance standards, and quality management systems (ISO certifications).

Oversee rigorous quality control processes to ensure all products meet customer specifications and industry

standards for stainless steel grades.

Operational Management:

Manage the day-to-day operations of the plant, optimizing resource utilization (manpower, machinery, materials).

Optimize production scheduling and planning to maximize throughput and minimize bottlenecks.

Collaborate closely with the Maintenance Heads (Mechanical and Electrical/Automation) to maximize equipment

reliability and minimize downtime through effective maintenance strategies.

Financial Performance and Cost Management:

Manage operational budgets, control overheads, and optimize variable costs to maximize profitability.

Implement cost-saving measures without compromising on safety or quality standards.

Monitor production costs against budget and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Team Leadership and Stakeholder Management:

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing operations team, fostering an environment of accountability and

continuous learning.

Act as the primary interface between plant operations, senior management, commercial teams

(sales/procurement), and external stakeholders/vendors.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Education: Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a

related field. A Master';s degree or MBA is highly desirable.

Experience: 15-20+ years of progressive experience in plant operations within the metals industry, with at least 10 years in a senior operational leadership role (Plant Manager, VP Operations, Head of Operations) specific to an integrated steel or, preferably, stainless steel manufacturing facility.

Technical Knowledge:

o Deep operational expertise in stainless steel manufacturing processes, including EAF/AOD melting, continuous

casting, hot rolling, cold rolling, and finishing processes.

o Strong understanding of modern manufacturing execution systems (MES) and enterprise resource planning

(ERP) software.

o Knowledge of quality standards for various stainless steel grades.
