Head of Legal

Spencers Retail is one of Indias leading multi-format retail chains, offering a wide range of food, grocery, and lifestyle products through its extensive store network. We are actively looking for a legal professional who will lead the legal department and oversee litigation, compliance, and commercial contract management across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

1.Litigation & Dispute Resolution

• Lead and manage all pending litigation matters including civil, criminal, consumer.
• Coordinate with external counsels, advocates, and law firms for efficient litigation management.
• Develop litigation strategies and ensure timely filings, case tracking, and documentation management.
• Handle consumer disputes, landlord tenant disputes, contract disputes, employment disputes, and vendor disputes.
• Supervise arbitration, mediation, and settlement negotiations.
• Oversee filing of complaints, FIRs, and coordination with police authorities and regulatory bodies where required.

2.Compliance

• Ensure company-wide compliance with applicable laws including:
• Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSAI)
• Legal Metrology Act
• Labor and Employment Laws

3.Commercial & Contract Management

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements including:
• Vendor and supplier agreements
• Lease and property agreements
• Service contracts
• Provide legal support for commercial negotiations and strategic business initiatives.

Experience Required

• 15 years experience in corporate Retail / FMCG
• Knowledge of Food Laws and Litigation and Commercial and Contract Law
