Head of Equity Research

Role Summary

We are looking for an accomplished Head of Research Equity Markets to lead and scale the firms equity research function. The role is responsible for setting the research vision, driving differentiated investment ideas, strengthening institutional client engagement, and building a high-performing analyst team. This position demands deep expertise in Indian equity markets, institutional research standards, portfolio construction, and strategic leadership aligned with business growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

1. Investment Strategy & Recommendations

• Lead the development and delivery of high-conviction equity recommendations across sectors and market capitalizations
• Generate actionable stock, sector, and thematic investment ideas focused on alpha generation
• Provide strategic inputs on equity market outlook, research priorities, budgets, and long-term initiatives

2. Institutional Client Engagement

• Serve as the primary research interface for Institutional Clients, Private Client Group (PCG), HNI, and Retail segments
• Address ongoing client queries, present investment views, and support decision-making through structured research insights
• Represent research viewpoints in institutional meetings, calls, and strategy discussions

3. Research Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and evaluate the equity research team , ensuring analytical rigor and consistency
• Oversee company analysis, valuation methodologies, and recommendation frameworks
• Review and validate analyst output while driving idea generation and original thought leadership
• Engage with company management teams and present insights to institutional investors

4. Research Product & Offering Development

• Conceptualize and develop customized research products for different client segments:
• Institutional investors
• HNI / PCG
• Retail investors
• Ensure research offerings are commercially relevant and aligned with organizational strategy

5. Financial Modeling & Portfolio Oversight

• Supervise the creation and validation of financial models and valuation frameworks
• Closely monitor companies under coverage and recommend portfolio actions based on:
• Fundamental developments
• Market dynamics
• Macro and regulatory changes

6. Sector, Market & Thematic Research

• Track sector-level trends, policy changes, and macroeconomic indicators
• Identify structural opportunities and emerging risks across industries
• Develop theme-based investment and trading strategies for clients

7. Strategic Planning & Business Alignment

• Define short- and long-term research strategies aligned with overall business goals
• Translate market insights into actionable business recommendations
• Identify research-led solutions to address evolving business and client needs

8. Client Interaction & Industry Presence

• Lead high-level client interactions including:
• Institutional conference calls
• Corporate access meetings
• Industry visits and roadshows
• Build and sustain a strong network across corporates, institutions, and market participants

9. Research Governance & Publications

• Oversee publication of equity research reports across sectors and market caps
• Manage coverage of 100+ companies while maintaining quality and compliance standards
• Govern research budgets, internal policies, and institutional research best practices

Mandatory Qualifications

• MBA (Finance) from a leading institution OR
• CFA OR
• CA

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 10+ years of experience in Institutional Equity Research / Mutual Funds
• 5+ years in a leadership or team-management role
• Mandatory experience servicing Institutional Clients
• Proven track record of managing large research coverage (100+ companies)
• Age criterion: 40 years and above
