Head of Engineering

WTF Gyms (Witness The Fitness) is one of India's fastest-growing fitness-tech companies 50+ gym locations, 26,000+ members, and a proprietary technology platform (WTF OS) powering everything from lead management and CRM to AI-driven revenue engines, WhatsApp bots, and live member apps.

We build everything in-house. Our stack runs on Node.js, PostgreSQL, React, Next.js, Flutter, and AWS and we're scaling fast across multiple product verticals: Member App, Trainer App, Amplify CRM, Digi Gym, WTF ELITE, AI Revenue Engine, and more.

Our founder is technical. He architects systems, codes, and leads product thinking. What we need now is someone who can take that baton and run someone who can own engineering delivery, lead a growing team, and still open a code editor and ship.

What you'll own

• Full ownership of WTF's engineering roadmap across 6+ live product verticals running simultaneously
• Architecture decisions from database schema design to API structure to deployment pipelines
• Engineering team leadership hiring, mentoring, sprint planning, code reviews, and delivery accountability
• WTF OS platform our core tech backbone connecting gyms, members, trainers, payments, and AI modules
• Cross-functional collaboration with product, operations, and the founder to translate business problems into technical solutions
• Setting engineering standards coding practices, documentation, QA processes, deployment protocols, and on-call culture
• Making the technology bets when to scale, when to refactor, when to introduce a new tool or service

What we're looking for

Must-haves:

• 710 years of engineering experience, with the last 23 years in a lead or principal role
• Hands-on, still-coding you should be comfortable jumping into a Node.js service or debugging a PostgreSQL query yourself, not just reviewing PRs
• Experience building and scaling multi-product environments not just one app, but parallel products with shared infrastructure
• Deep expertise in PostgreSQL schema design, query optimization, indexing, performance tuning
• Strong command of Node.js (Express/Fastify) for scalable API development
• React/Next.js on the frontend not a specialist, but genuinely comfortable
• AWS hands-on EC2, RDS, S3, deployment pipelines, environment management
• Experience managing engineering teams of 820 people
• Product-first mindset you think about the business problem before you think about the code

Strong advantages:

• Experience with Flutter or React Native for mobile
• Familiarity with AI integrations OpenAI, LLMs, real-time systems, WebSockets
• Has worked at a product startup, not just services or large enterprises
• Has scaled a platform from early-stage to significant user volumes
• Daily user of AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot)

What this is NOT

• This is not a pure management role. If you haven't written production code in the last 6 months, this isn't the right fit.
• This is not a slow-moving corporate environment. We move fast, make decisions quickly, and expect the same.
• This is not a role for someone who needs a large team and long planning cycles to ship anything.
