Head of Engineering - Marketplace / Fintech / Remote

Location: Remote (GMT+8)

Type: Full time - Perm

Pay Structure: Base + Discretionary bonus + Esops

Base Range: 70 - 100 LPA

About the Opportunity

We are working with a high-growth FinTech business, publicly listed on the NASDAQ, that is scaling its engineering capabilities across Asia. The right person will be the first hire in India that's required to build a remote high functioning engineering team.

You will play a player coach role, which means the first 6 months your responsibilities will include

1- 6 months: 30% Building an engineering team, 30% system design & architecture, 30% Production grade coding.

6-12months: 50% Management, 30% System design and Architecture 20% optimizing best practices, code reviews, PR and little coding.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and scale engineering teams, leading recruitment, onboarding, and mentorship to ensure long-term success and retention.
• Own and oversee system architecture and design, ensuring scalable and secure solutions for consumer-facing platforms.
• Establish and manage the engineering development process, driving modern practices in coding, testing, and deployment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, and Business) to deliver impactful solutions.
• Drive cloud-native development.
• Ensure platform reliability, high performance, and scalability to meet rapid growth needs.

Preferred Experience

• 8+ years in software engineering, with at least 2+ years in an engineering management role (preferably remote teams)
• Proven startup experience: ability to thrive in 01 and high-growth environments.
• Hands-on experience in recruiting engineers, building onboarding programs, and creating successful teams.
• Background in marketplace businesses or insurance technology is highly desirable.
• Expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and modern cloud architectures.
