Job Description
About Us:
Join a team that is redefining the accessibility of space. Azista space is a transformative force in the global aerospace sector, uniquely positioned at the intersection of indigenous innovation and industrial scalability. Operating Indias first private-sector satellite mass-production facility in Ahmedabad, we have bridged the gap between complex engineering and high-volume manufacturing.
As a vertically integrated leader, we provide end-to-end solutions from the precision design of satellite buses and advanced payloads to mission management and communication systems. We dont just build hardware, we are democratizing the final frontier by providing global clientele with the cost-effective, high-performance technology needed to power the next generation of orbital missions. At Azista, you won't just be starting a job, youll be fuelling the future of space exploration.
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Hardware Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and bring-up of On-Board Computer (OBC) systems for aerospace applications. This role requires a hands-on engineer who can take hardware from concept through production while ensuring reliability in demanding space and aerospace environments, including radiation-hardened, high-reliability designs for LEO/GEO missions.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design digital hardware (processor subsystems, power management, memory, comms peripherals); establish design heritage and architecture from inception.
- Create schematics/PCB layouts for high-speed digital designs, focusing on signal/power integrity, EMI/EMC, and HDI.
- Conduct trade studies for space-qualified components, architecture, and optimization per mission/radiation (TID/SEE) requirements.
- Perform circuit/WCA/derating/PSA/FMECA analysis for margins/reliability.
- Lead board bring-up: power sequencing, signal integrity, functional validation.
- Debug with oscilloscopes, logic/protocol analyzers, JTAG; execute test plans for verification/qualification/DFT.
- Collaborate on HW/SW integration, HIL troubleshooting with firmware teams.
- Define interfaces (MIL-STD-1553/ARINC) compatible with spacecraft/aircraft subsystems; develop ICDs for system integration.
- Support environmental testing: vibration, thermal-vacuum, radiation, EMC/EMI, shock.
Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- B.Tech/BE in EE/CE or related (M.Tech/ME preferred).
- 4+ years hardware design; 2+ in aerospace/space systems (flight hardware for satellites/launch vehicles).
- Proven board bring-up/debugging of complex digital systems in radiation environments.
Technical Skills
- Expert in Altium/OrCAD/Cadence Allegro for schematics/PCB.
- Microprocessor/MCU/embedded design; exp. with SAMv71, Kintex UltraScale, PolarFire SoCs, ARM Cortex, rad-tolerant FPGAs.
- High-speed interfaces: DDR (LPDDR4/5), GbE Ethernet, SpaceWire, CAN, PCIe, LVDS.
- Verification: SPICE, SI (Hyperlynx/IBIS), PI tools, thermal estimation.
- Lab/debug: equipment, ATE, JTAG boundary scan.
- FPGA: VHDL/Verilog, HW/FPGA co-design, Xilinx/Microchip prototyping.
Aerospace Domain Knowledge
- Space effects: radiation (SEE/TID/SEL), thermal/vacuum extremes, outgassing, micrometeoroids.
- Standards: DO-254 DAL, MIL-STD-461/704, ECSS, NASA GEVS, ISRO (desirable).
- Reliability: FMECA/PSA/WCA, DFM/DFT.
- Config management, ICDs, AS9100/CMMI docs for aerospace.
Additional Qualifications
- Strong analytical/problem-solving with detail focus.
- Excellent comms for docs, reviews, cross-team collab.
- Fast-paced multi-priority handling.
- Mentoring juniors a plus.
