Position Summary...

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative leader to foster a culture of innovation and engineering excellence across our Cloud and Data Platform teams. The candidate will be responsible for growing and scaling platforms and services across various Walmart businesses and building high-performing teams by attracting and retaining top talent. The role involves leading the development and implementation of AI/ML and GenAI initiatives and maintaining governance frameworks for these AI initiatives.

The candidate should also be capable of overseeing big data and data processing strategies to optimize Big data processing and drive the Data Management Platform strategy for Walmart by collaborating with other functional leaders. They will lead the teams in India responsible for databases and cloud infrastructure and must be committed to operational excellence, focusing on reducing technical debt and operational costs, and streamlining offerings to improve organizational agility.

They must establish customer-centric and product-focused practices and strive for cost optimization in open source and cloud services. Lastly, they will serve as the site leader for Cloud and Data Platform teams in India, demonstrating strong leadership and management skills.

What you'll do...

About Team: 

The Group Director, Cloud & Data, will lead a global team of nearly 500 engineers, focusing on driving forward architectures, vision, strategy, and execution for cloud and data-related platform products and technologies. The leader will provide technology leadership in AI/ML, GenAI, Big Data, and Data Management areas and align all Global Technology functions. The role involves creating an innovative culture, growing and scaling services across Walmart, and building high-performing teams. The leader will lead AI/ML and GenAI initiatives, maintain AI governance, oversee big data strategies, execute the Data Management Platform strategy, and lead database and cloud engineering, product, user design and machine learning teams in India. The role also requires fostering operational excellence and serving as the site leader for Cloud and Data Platform teams in India. 

What you’ll Do: 

The Group Director, Cloud & Data will have global responsibility for driving forward architectures, vision, strategy, roadmap, and execution for cloud & data-related platform products and technologies. This position will provide technology leadership, guidance, blueprints, best practices, and expertise as the global engineering lead for AI/ML, GenAI, Big Data, and Data Management areas. The role will also drive alignment between all Global Technology functions. All cloud & data teams in India will report to the Group Director. 

Responsibilities  

  • Create a Culture of Innovation: Foster an environment of innovation and raise the bar for engineering excellence across the Cloud and Data Platform teams. 

  • Grow and Scale: Focus on delivering platforms and services to be leveraged across various business/verticals in Walmart, providing best-of-breed, cost-optimized, scalable, and extensible platforms. 

  • Build High-Performing Teams: Attract, grow, and retain top talent. Foster an environment of innovation and autonomy. 

  • AI/ML and GenAI: Lead the development and implementation of AI/ML and GenAI initiatives. Define strategy and develop an AI/ML Platform for Walmart aimed at improving developer productivity and accelerating time-to-market for features, utilizing AI/ML to address business challenges. 

  • AI Governance: Maintain governance frameworks for AI initiatives. 

  • Big Data and Data Processing: Oversee big data and data processing strategies to optimize data utilization. 

  • Data Management: Own, contribute and execute the Data Management Platform strategy (Metadata, Data Quality, Data Governance and Data Categorization/Classification) for Walmart by collaborating with functional leader across Walmart. 

  • Databases and Cloud Teams: Lead the teams in India responsible for databases and cloud infrastructure. 

  • Operational Excellence: Foster a culture and establish mechanics to put customer-centric and product-focused thinking into practice. Reduce Technical Debt, lower operational costs (by building scalable, resilient systems and devops rigor), streamline offerings to improve org agility with optimized vendor and cloud cost. 

  • Site Leadership: Serve as the site leader for Cloud and Data Platform teams in India.
