What you will do:
This is a critical leadership role within the Enterprise Governance & Controls function and the Finance Center of Excellence (FCOE). As an integral part of the global Enterprise Governance & Controls team, the Governance & Controls Leader, FCOE, will collaborate with the VP of Finance COE, the Global VP of Order to Cash, and other leadership team members to ensure that internal controls are properly designed and functioning effectively at the Company’s COEs. Additionally, this individual will ensure that policies and procedures are consistently and correctly applied. They will also work closely with Internal Audit, external auditors, and other global finance leaders.
How you will do it:
Set up and review the control environment for business center processes serving Johnson Controls' global business.
Oversee continuous control monitoring and self-certification workstreams, enhancing consistency in the design and execution of these programs across the business centers that comprise the FCOE. Support the rollout of the continuous monitoring program to other locations.
Test the effectiveness of the 404 harmonized controls through collaboration with process owners (PTP, OTC, RTR, ICO).
Review findings from FCOE control monitoring programs and internal/external audits. Work with process owners to ensure deficiencies are remediated promptly, identify trends requiring further evaluation or training, and escalate critical issues to senior management.
Partner with members of the global Governance & Controls team to understand the risks throughout end-to-end processes and ensure these risks are adequately addressed by controls.
Collaborate with process owners on the design, implementation, and execution of controls.
Develop and conduct training on various controls, processes, and policies.
Provide support for US GAAP, statutory, and internal audits.
Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with process owners, auditors, team members, and finance leadership.
Update and harmonize the Company’s common control matrix to address changes in business processes, transitions in process ownership, and/or evolving business risks.
Identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency and standardization of business processes. Publish summaries of recommendations and identify opportunities for standardization, including timing and descriptions.
Issue monthly dashboards on key governance-related metrics and monthly reports on global and regional SOX key performance indicators. Follow-up with trainings and issue closure with the FCOE leadership team.
Support the transition of ledgers and processes into the FCOE.
Provide ad-hoc support on projects requiring additional and special analysis.
Lead a team of approximately 10-12 individuals focused primarily on the control environment of the FCOE.
What we look for:
- Chartered Accountant with 15-18 years of experience in finance processes, internal controls, and/or audits.
- Preferred additional qualifications: Dipl. IFRS, ACCA/CIMA in progress.
- Understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements for US-based, publicly traded companies.
- Experience with multinational corporations. Working with a Big 4 accounting firm is a significant advantage.
- Strong process knowledge and accounting/reporting understanding.
- MS-Office and ERP experience (e.g. SAP, Oracle).
- Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to build relationships and collaborate with global team members.
- Analytical skills; ability to interpret data and drive improvements.
