Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Database Engineer with extensive experience in managing and optimizing relational databases, including Singlestore (Memsql), PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle. The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of aws and azure technologies, a working knowledge of Databricks, and the ability to automate workflows using shell scripting in a Linux environment.
As a Database Engineer in our team, you will play a crucial role in the design, management, optimization, and automation of our database environments to ensure high performance, availability, and scalability. The role requires both technical expertise and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive improvements in data management and infrastructure automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer, configure, and optimize Singlestore, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle databases, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure reliability and optimal performance.
- Manage backup and disaster recovery processes for database environments.
- Design and implement efficient data models and database schemas to meet business requirements.
- Implement and manage cloud-based database solutions, including provisioning, scaling, and cost optimization of cloud resources.
- Leverage cloud platforms (AWS and Azure) for data storage, processing, and integration.
- Integrate cloud-native services and technologies with relational databases.
- Configure and manage Databricks environments.
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure seamless data pipelines and storage integrations with Databricks.
- Write shell scripts to automate routine database management tasks and operational workflows, reducing manual intervention and increasing efficiency.
- Implement automation for deployment, monitoring, and scaling of database environments.
- Develop and manage configuration management tools for deployment (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
- Utilize Linux systems for database administration, scripting, and infrastructure automation.
- Troubleshoot and optimize Linux-based environments to ensure smooth operation of databases and related applications.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (DevOps, Data Engineers, Data Scientists) to support data workflows and infrastructure needs.
- Document procedures, configurations, and scripts to maintain knowledge sharing within the team.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Singlestore, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle databases.
- Experience in database performance tuning, replication, and high-availability configurations.
- Experience with data migrations, backup strategies, and disaster recovery.
- Solid understanding of cloud services and infrastructure (AWS, Azure).
- Experience managing and scaling cloud-based databases.
- Familiarity with Databricks environment for big data processing.
- Proficiency in creating and optimizing Spark jobs and using Databricks SQL for querying large datasets.
- Strong experience in shell scripting to automate database tasks and operational workflows.
- Knowledge of automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, GIT, Jenkins and similar.
- In-depth experience working in a Linux environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and optimize Linux-based database systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- A proactive and self-motivated approach to continuous learning and process improvement.
- Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) for managing cloud and database environments.
- Knowledge of other programming languages such as Python or Java is a plus.
Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
