Job Description

Job Summary:

Karamtara Engineering Ltd is seeking a highly experienced General Manager - Procurement to lead and manage procurement operations, with a primary focus on capital equipment and capex purchases . The ideal candidate will have at least 15 - 20 years of expertise in procuring high-value capital assets, industrial machinery, and raw materials for large-scale projects. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the steel, power, or renewable energy sectors .

This role requires deep expertise in global procurement for brownfield and greenfield projects , managing large-volume capex investments , negotiating high-stakes contracts, and ensuring optimal supply chain efficiency. The GM will play a pivotal role in strategic sourcing, vendor management, and cost optimisation for critical capital investments.


Key Responsibilities:

Capital Equipment & Capex Procurement:

  • Lead procurement strategies for high-value capital equipment , industrial machinery, and infrastructure investments.
  • Ensure cost-effective sourcing of capex items while maintaining quality, reliability, and long-term asset performance.
  • Oversee procurement for brownfield and greenfield projects , ensuring the timely acquisition of critical equipment.

Global Procurement & Vendor Management:

  • Develop and manage global supplier relationships to secure competitive pricing and favourable contract terms.
  • Conduct vendor evaluations to ensure a stable supply of high-quality equipment, materials, and services.
  • Negotiate long-term agreements with OEMs and suppliers to optimise procurement costs and mitigate risks.

Strategic Procurement Leadership:

  • Formulate and implement procurement strategies aligned with business objectives and project timelines.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives through strategic sourcing, supplier consolidation, and contract optimization.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to ensure procurement aligns with technical specifications and project needs.

Risk & Compliance Management:

  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with capex procurement , supply chain disruptions, and vendor agreements.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, company policies, and ethical procurement practices .
  • Implement robust contract management processes to safeguard company interests.

Team Leadership & Budget Optimisation:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing procurement team , fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Monitor and optimise procurement budgets , ensuring financial efficiency and cost control.
  • Utilise data-driven insights to enhance procurement decision-making and operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 15 to 20 years of experience in procurement, with a strong focus on capital equipment, industrial machinery, and capex investments .
  • Proven expertise in global procurement for large-scale brownfield and greenfield projects .
  • Extensive experience in the steel, power, or renewable energy sectors is highly preferred.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and decision-making abilities for high-value procurement contracts.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a procurement team effectively.
  • Proficiency in procurement management software and tools .
  • B.E. or bachelors degree in supply chain management , business administration, or a related field (Masters degree preferred ).
