Reporting To: Board of Directors (with a dotted line to Managing Director)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced General Manager Operations to lead the strategic, operational, and financial management of our industrial solar salt business in Tanzania.

This leadership role will oversee large-scale salt field infrastructure, underground brine-based solar salt production, processing facilities, and commercial operations. The position carries full P&L responsibility and will drive operational excellence, asset development, compliance, and sustainable growth across domestic and export markets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic & Enterprise Leadership

• Define and execute short-, medium-, and long-term company strategy in alignment with Board direction
• Translate strategic objectives into operational and financial plans
• Lead growth, scale-up, and diversification initiatives
• Drive long-term value creation through disciplined capital allocation

2. Infrastructure, Manufacturing & Asset Management

• Oversee large-scale salt field infrastructure at Uvinza
• Provide leadership for refining and packing facilities
• Ensure plants and factories are:
• Properly maintained
• Technically upgraded
• Designed for efficiency, safety, and scalability
• Implement engineering standards, SOPs, and operational documentation

3. Operations Leadership & Governance

• Lead operations through the GM Operations (Uvinza) with clear governance structures
• Ensure alignment between site operations and corporate objectives
• Conduct regular site visits to review:
• Infrastructure health
• Maintenance effectiveness
• Capex project progress

4. Financial & P&L Ownership

• Own full P&L responsibility for the business
• Approve and monitor:
• Annual operating budgets
• Capital expenditure plans
• Cost structures and margins
• Drive EBITDA growth through operational excellence and cost discipline
• Ensure strong cash flow and working capital management

5. Commercial Strategy & Market Expansion

• Provide strategic oversight to Sales & Business Development teams
• Approve and track annual domestic and export sales targets
• Guide pricing, channel strategy, and customer mix
• Support expansion into new geographies and export markets

6. Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with Tanzanian regulations
• Establish strong internal controls and risk management frameworks
• Ensure business continuity, disaster preparedness, and asset protection

7. Leadership & Organizational Development

• Build and lead high-performing teams across:
• Operations
• Engineering & Maintenance
• Sales & Marketing
• Finance
• Supply Chain & Logistics
• HR & Administration
• Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and performance
• Develop succession planning and leadership capabilities

• Production efficiency and cost per MT

Candidate Profile

Education

• Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering (strongly preferred)
• or Process / Industrial / Mechanical Engineering
• MBA or Postgraduate Management qualification preferred

Experience

• 510+ years of progressive experience in:
• Industrial manufacturing
• Chemicals / salt / minerals / process industries
• Experience managing large asset-heavy operations with P&L ownership
• Prior leadership experience as GM, Business Head, Operations Head, or Plant Head
• Experience working in Africa (East Africa preferred)
