General Accountant (Full-Time)

Location: Patna, Bihar (On-site)

Industry: IT Products & Services (Government Contracting)

Reports to: Finance Manager / Director

Role Overview

The General Accountant is a critical role responsible for maintaining the financial health and regulatory integrity of the company. You will manage end-to-end accounting functions, from daily bookkeeping in BUSY to high-level financial reporting and statutory compliance. This position requires a professional capable of handling the complexities of government project invoicing, regional tax laws, and rigorous audit standards.

1. Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs)A. Strategic Financial Management
  • Software Ecosystem: Take full ownership of the BUSY Accounting Software environment, including cost center setup, inventory categorization, and data security/backups.
  • Balance Sheet Integrity: Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual closings; ensure all ledgers are "audit-ready" at all times.
  • Cash Flow Optimization: Monitor daily liquidity and coordinate with procurement to schedule vendor payments while maintaining optimal working capital.
B. Taxation & Regulatory Compliance
  • GST Framework: Manage GST R1, 3B, and 9C filings; perform ITC reconciliation (GSTR-2A/2B) to ensure zero tax leakage.
  • Direct Tax: Calculate and deposit TDS; prepare and file quarterly returns (Forms 24Q, 26Q) via TRACES.
  • Labor Laws: Execute monthly ESI and PF electronic challan-cum-returns (ECR) and ensure Bihar Professional Tax (PT) compliance.
C. Invoicing & Commercial Operations
  • Project-Based Invoicing: Generate milestone invoices for government contracts (EC Railways, Income Tax Dept), ensuring all Annexures meet specific departmental standards.
  • Logistics & Trading: Issue E-way bills for hardware trading and manage documentation for Sales/Purchase returns (Debit/Credit Notes).
  • Bank Liaison: Handle correspondence for Letters of Credit (LC), Bank Guarantees (BG) for tenders, and OD/CC account maintenance.
D. Recovery & Bookkeeping
  • Debtor Management: Maintain a "Zero-Error" aging report and conduct diligent follow-ups to ensure timely recovery of outstanding dues.
  • Audit Facilitation: Prepare detailed schedules for Fixed Assets, Depreciation, and Contingent Liabilities for Statutory and Tax Audits.
2. Educational QualificationsPrimary Requirements
  • Degree: Bachelors Degree in Commerce (B.Com) or Finance.
  • Academic Standing: Minimum 60% aggregate in core subjects (Accounting, Auditing, and Taxation).
Preferred/Advanced Qualifications
  • Post-Graduation: Masters in Commerce (M.Com) or MBA in Finance is highly desirable.
  • Professional Certification: Semi-qualified CA (Inter) or ICWA (Inter) candidates are preferred due to the complexity of government audits.
  • Diploma: Government-recognized Diploma in Computerized Financial Accounting.
3. Technical Skill SetA. Software Mastery (Non-Negotiable)
  • BUSY Accounting: Expert-level inventory management and finalization of accounts.
  • MS Office: * Excel: Advanced proficiency (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Data Validation, Budgetary Analysis).
  • Word: Professional drafting for formal correspondence with banks and government bodies.
  • Portals: Hands-on experience with GSTN, ESI/PF, and TRACES.
B. Taxation & Banking
  • Statutory Knowledge: Deep understanding of CGST, SGST, IGST, and Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM).
  • Banking Operations: Proficient in NEFT/RTGS/IMPS batches and processing Earnest Money Deposits (EMD) for tenders.
4. Soft Skills & Behavioral Attributes
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to spot discrepancies in high-volume data and interpret budget variances.
  • Liaison Skills: Confidence to represent the company at banks or tax offices; firm yet polite negotiation for payment recovery.
  • Organizational Discipline: Absolute confidentiality regarding payroll and contract pricing; strict adherence to statutory deadlines (e.g., GST filing by the 20th).
5. Mandatory Functional Requirements
  • Driving Proficiency: Must possess a valid Permanent Driving License (2-wheeler minimum) for local coordination in Patna.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in Hindi (verbal) and professional proficiency in English (written/formal).
