Job Description
Going to School is hiring a Gender Lead (10 years experience) based in Mumbai to drive organisation-wide implementation of our external gender audit. This role is about making change real translating audit findings into stronger policies, programme implementation, training, content, and organisational practice. You will work closely with leadership and teams across the organisation to embed a clear, rigorous gender lens into how we design, deliver, and measure our work.
This is a role for someone who can work at both levels: building frameworks and systems, and doing hard, grounded work with communities and teams to make sure the work is real, useful, and accountable.
You will lead the organisations gender strategy across programmes and partnerships, build and strengthen gender-responsive programme tools, content and delivery methods, support programme teams to implement safe, ethical, community-informed gender work, build credible evidence and documentation of gender outcomes and lived experience, train and mentor teams so that gender is embedded in how we plan, deliver and reflect, and work with leadership to make gender work clear, measurable and accountable without jargon.
We are looking for someone with 710 years of relevant experience in gender-focused programme leadership (ideally in education, youth, public systems or community work), strong ability to work on the ground with communities, facilitators and young people, and the ability to design and run gender frameworks and systems that work in real settings. You should be able to document lived experience with care, ethics, accuracy and dignity, be comfortable working closely with programme teams, operations, leadership and partners, and have strong writing skills clear, sharp and evidence-based.
You must be based in Mumbai, fluent in English and Hindi/Marathi (or have strong working proficiency), and willing to travel within Mumbai and surrounding areas as needed. You should be comfortable with tools used in programme delivery and learning, including Google Suite, Excel, dashboards, and basic qualitative and quantitative analysis tools. Experience with research, assessments, and documentation workflows is strongly preferred.
To apply, please send your CV, a short note on why you want this role, and at least two writing samples (gender reports, programme reports, learning briefs, case studies, evaluation reports, research pieces). Writing samples must be your original work and must not use AI.
