Job Description
Job Role: Functional Safety Engineer
Work Experience: 7 to 12 Years
Location: Pune
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and drive software functional safety activities across the development lifecycle in compliance with ISO 26262.
- Define software functional safety concepts, safety goals, safety mechanisms, and safety requirements aligned with the overall system safety architecture.
- Perform safety analysis activities including FMEA, DFA, FTA, and FFI.
- Execute ASIL decomposition and ensure proper allocation of safety requirements across system and software components.
- Design and review safety-oriented software architecture for automotive ECUs and embedded platforms.
- Ensure bi-directional traceability between safety requirements, design artifacts, implementation, and validation results.
- Review MCU safety manuals and safety architectures from semiconductor vendors such as Infineon, NXP, and Renesas.
- Guide implementation of safety mechanisms including: Lockstep CPUs, Watchdog timers, ECC / CRC, BIST / MBIST, Voltage and clock monitoring, Safe-state handling
- Collaborate with system, hardware, software, and validation teams to ensure compliance with functional safety standards.
- Prepare and maintain ISO 26262 compliant safety documentation and work products.
- Present functional safety strategies and compliance evidence to customers, auditors, and certification bodies.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of software development experience with 5+ years in Functional Safety projects.
- Strong experience in ISO 26262 compliant system and software development.
- Strong programming experience in Embedded C / C++ development including debugging and optimization.
- Deep understanding of safety analysis techniques such as FMEA, DFA, FTA, and FFI.
- Hands-on experience in ASIL decomposition and safety requirement allocation.
- Strong understanding of Safety Engineering principles and safety-oriented software architecture.
- Experience with Requirements Management tools (DOORS or similar).
- Working knowledge of AUTOSAR-based automotive software systems.
- Experience with MISRA C/C++ guidelines and static code analysis tools.
