You'll be working with a global fast-casual restaurant brand that's experiencing rapid growth across multiple countries and franchise models. Their Digital Engineering organization builds and operates a large-scale, cloud-native ordering and operations platform that powers their business. Technology isn't just a support function here - it's a strategic growth enabler.

The engineering culture is built around accountability, ownership, and impact. They operate lean teams of senior individual contributors, led by strong onshore technical leaders in Australia. The expectation is simple: deliver production-ready software with a high bar for quality, security, and reliability.

Role Overview

We're looking for Full Stack Engineers who will work as an integrated part of the client's engineering teams, building production software for a cloud-native ordering and operations platform. You'll work under the direction of onshore engineering leads, participating fully in agile ceremonies and delivery cadence.

This is not a task-execution role. The client's culture is built around ownership and accountability - you'll be expected to take full ownership of features, make sound technical decisions, communicate proactively, and deliver production-ready code with high quality standards. With your experience, you'll be able to work independently on significant features while collaborating effectively with the team.

Experience in the QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) or retail/hospitality technology space is highly valued, as you'll be working with a global fast-casual restaurant brand building large-scale ordering and operations platforms across multiple countries.

Key Responsibilities

Full Stack Development

• Design and build end-to-end features across the full technology stack - from database schema to API design to user interface
• Architect and implement scalable backend services using AWS Lambda (Node.js runtime) and NestJS framework, handling high-throughput production workloads
• Build robust REST and WebSocket APIs using API Gateway, with focus on performance, security, and developer experience
• Design and implement event-driven architectures leveraging SQS, SNS, and EventBridge to build resilient, loosely-coupled systems
• Create sophisticated frontend applications using React and Next.js with TypeScript, implementing complex state management and user interactions
• Design efficient data models and write optimized queries for Aurora Serverless (MySQL) and DynamoDB, understanding the tradeoffs between SQL and NoSQL approaches
• Implement comprehensive observability and monitoring using CloudWatch, X-Ray, OpenTelemetry, and Datadog - building systems that are transparent and debuggable in production
• Make architectural decisions that balance performance, maintainability, cost, and time-to-market

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
• Participate in code reviews and learn from feedback
• Follow secure development practices
• Document your work clearly
• Embrace automation and cloud-native patterns

Team Collaboration

• Participate in daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and demos
• Communicate clearly and proactively escalate blockers
• Share knowledge and mentor team members
• Work collaboratively with onshore engineering leads
• Contribute to technical discussions and decision-making

Technical Requirements

Must Have

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js
• Solid experience with React for frontend development
• Proven experience building REST APIs and backend services
• Strong understanding of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL databases
• Good working knowledge of AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, or similar)
• Experience working in agile development environments
• Strong communication skills in English

Good to Have

• Experience in QSR (Quick Service Restaurant), retail, or hospitality technology
• Experience with NestJS or similar Node.js frameworks
• Knowledge of Next.js
• Understanding of event-driven architecture patterns
• Exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code (AWS CDK, Terraform)
• Experience with DynamoDB
• Familiarity with observability tools (CloudWatch, Datadog)
• Experience with serverless architectures
• Previous experience working with distributed or offshore-onshore teams

Security & Practices

• Understanding of secure coding practices
• Awareness of common security vulnerabilities (OWASP)
• Experience with authentication and authorization patterns

Technical Environment

• Backend: AWS Lambda, NestJS, Node.js, TypeScript, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, EventBridge
• Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind, Zustand/Redux
• Data: Aurora Serverless (MySQL), DynamoDB
• Infrastructure: AWS CDK (preferred), Terraform, CloudWatch, X-Ray, OpenTelemetry, Datadog
• Security: Okta/AWS SSO, MFA, secure SDLC practices
• DevOps: CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability-first approach
