The Role

Werelooking for an SDE 3Backend Engineer who canoperateas a founding Tech Lead. This role sits at the intersection of architecture, execution, and leadership.

Youlldesign core systems, lead backend development, guide frontend collaboration, and own production deployments.Youllwork closely with founders to make long-term technical decisions while staying hands-on in code.

This is not a pure managementroleyouwillbuild, ship, and leadby example.

WhatYoullDo

• Architect and build scalable, reliable backend systems for a SaaS product
• Own backend design: APIs, data models, integrations, and core services
• Take ownership of existing backend systems, improving reliability, performance, and maintainability
• Drive architecture decisions with a focus on maintainability, scalability, and cost
• Apply clean architecture principles and proven software design patterns
• Lead backend development from design implementation production
• Mentor and guide backend and frontend engineers
• Review code with a strong emphasis on quality, correctness, and performance
• Collaborate closely with frontend engineers to ensure smooth API design and delivery
• Own deployments, environments, and production readiness
• Establish engineering best practices, standards, and workflows
• Act as a technical leader within a fast-moving founding team

WhatWereLooking For

Backend & Systems Expertise

• 4+ years of strong backend engineering experience
• Deep understanding of backend system design and API architecture
• Experience building and running production-grade systems
• Strong knowledge of:
• RESTful APIs
• Authentication & authorization
• Background jobs / async processing
• Datamodellingand migrations
• Performance tuning and reliability

Architecture & Engineering Maturity

• Proven experience making architecture decisions for real-world applications
• Strong grasp of:
• Software design patterns
• Clean and modular architecture
• Trade-offs between speed, scale, and complexity
• Ability to reason about systems holistically, not just individual features

Cloud, Deployment & DevOps

• Hands-on experience deploying applications to cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
• Experience with:
• Container-based deployments and environments
• Compute services
• Managed databases
• CI/CD pipelines
• Understanding of production concerns:
• Monitoring, logging, alerting
• Scalability and fault tolerance
• Deployment strategies and rollbacks

Networking & Infrastructure Fundamentals

• Solid understanding of essential networking concepts:
• HTTP / HTTPS
• DNS
• Load balancers & reverse proxies
• Basic TCP/IP concepts
• Comfortable diagnosing performance and connectivity issues in production

Frontend Collaboration

• Good working knowledge of frontend fundamentals
• Able to guide and support frontend engineers
• Comfortable reviewing frontend code and shaping API contracts
• Understands frontend needs when designing backend systems

Leadership & Ownership

• Experience leading or mentoring engineers
• Strong senseof ownership and accountability
• Excellent communication and decision-making skills
• Highly motivated and comfortable operating in early-stage ambiguity
• Thinks like a builder and owner, not just an executor

Tech Stack (Current & Planned)

• Backend:
• Python
• Django / Django REST Frameworkgood to have, not mandatory
• Frontend:React,Next.js
• Cloud: AWS
• Databases:PostgreSQL

Strong backend engineers from other stacks arewelcomewe value fundamentals and system design over specific languages. The right candidate should be able to pick up our stack quickly.

Nice to Have

• Experience building SaaS or multi-tenant systems
• Exposure to distributed systems or event-driven architectures
• Experience in early-stage startups or founding teams
