Position Summary
Financial Reporting Manager
The Financial Reporting Manager supports and leads key elements of end-to-end fund financial reporting processes across the fund lifecycle. The role partners with Deloitte engagement teams, client stakeholders, and third-party administrators/service providers to execute, coordinate, and enhance key middle- and back-office activities, with a focus on quality, control, and timely delivery. Expected to own workstreams, manage day-to-day execution, coach team members, and proactively identify risks, issues, and efficiency opportunities.
Work You Will Do
- Strong understanding of Equity/Debt/Hybrid Mutual Funds, Private Equity and Fund Accounting concepts, fund structures, capital activity, management fees/income, and waterfall mechanics.
- Ability to drive detailed fund reporting procedures leveraging knowledge of fund controllership, investment books and records (IBOR), and/or financial reporting processes.
- Deliver high-quality work products within agreed timelines and service-level expectations.
- Identify and drive efficiency opportunities through automation and technology-enabled solutions.
- Provide coaching, review, and quality oversight for work performed by team members.
Qualifications required
Must have skills/Project Experience/Certifications:
- 10+ years of relevant experience, Own fund financial reporting delivery for quarterly/annual cycles (financial statements, footnotes, supporting schedules) across a portfolio of funds (40 Act and non-40 Act funds), vehicles, and share classes, accountable for quality and timeliness.
- Set and manage the close-to-reporting strategy and calendar, aligning general ledger inputs, valuation, portfolio operations and fund administrators; enforce cutoffs and readiness gates.
- Provide overall review/approval oversight for key workpapers and tie-outs (trial balance to financials, roll forwards, lead schedules), ensuring audit-ready documentation and consistent presentation.
- Lead technical reporting governance for US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) (including ASC 946 as applicable); oversee accounting position papers and disclosure support.
- Own end-to-end disclosures management (investments, fair value, capital activity, related parties, commitments/contingencies), coordinating inputs, resolving content gaps, and maintaining source-of-truth support.
- Manage third-party service provider performance (fund administrator, valuation providers, custodians): set expectations, run deliverable reviews, drive issue resolution, and improve operating procedures/service levels.
- Lead audit management (Provided by Client (PBC) coordination, walkthroughs, variance explanations, evidence strategy), proactively de-risking timelines and closing issues to conclusion.
- Oversee complex fund accounting areas impacting reporting (capital calls, distributions, allocations, management/performance fees, expense allocations, subscriptions/redemptions) and ensure consistent application across funds.
- Deliver and review variance/trend analytics (period-over-period and budget/benchmark-to-actual where applicable), translating drivers into clear, executive-ready narratives and decision points.
- Establish and enforce controls and quality management (checklists, reconciliations, sign-offs, reasonableness thresholds), addressing root causes and reducing repeat deficiencies.
- Run a structured issue/RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) process: prioritize, assign owners, track to closure, and escalate risks early with mitigation plans.
- Drive continuous improvement (standard templates, automation opportunities, workflow redesign, data validation) to reduce cycle time, improve transparency, and increase scalability.
- Provide people leadership: coach and develop seniors/consultants, set performance expectations, conduct review feedback, and ensure effective staffing and workload balancing.
- Lead stakeholder and client communications (status, risks, decisions required), facilitating alignment across internal teams and external parties to support successful delivery.
- Contribute to engagement management (workplanning, financial management inputs, scope/change control support, and leadership of workstreams) to deliver outcomes and protect quality.
