About the Role
We're looking for someone who can write, shoot, edit, design, think, curate, and move fluidly between storytelling formats and platforms. Someone who understands that communication for a design university isn't just about captions or calendars it's about cultural literacy, visual fluency, and the ability to craft seamless narratives that reflect what's happening in the world and on campus.
You'll wear multiple hats here: writer, photographer, video editor, designer, event coordinator, creative collaborator, trend spotter. If you're deeply curious, perpetually online in the best way, can hold a conversation about everything from Satyajit Ray to street style to semiotics and know how to frame a shot and cut a story together keep reading.
What you will do
- Write and edit across all platforms: social media, website copy, press releases, campaign scripts. Your writing should adapt to the medium and audience Instagram captions aren't blog intros aren't press releases.
- Shoot and edit content: You'll be on the ground capturing moments events, campus life, student work, faculty interviews. Then you'll edit those into Instagram Stories, Reels, YouTube videos, or whatever format the story demands. You should know composition, lighting basics, and how to make a phone or DSLR work for you.
- Design when needed: Create social media posts, story graphics, email headers, or quick visual assets using Canva, Photoshop, or Illustrator. You don't need to be a senior designer, but you should have an eye for layout, typography, and brand consistency.
- Curate video and visual narratives: Work with internal and external design and video partners to develop concepts, write briefs, and ensure the final output has both aesthetic integrity and narrative clarity. You should know what a good edit looks like and be able to articulate why.
- Manage events with a storytelling lens: From Convocation to campus visits to the Graduate Show you'll help plan, coordinate, document, and amplify. You're not just logistics support. You're thinking: What's the story here? How do we capture and tell it before, during, and after?
- Stay contextually aware: You should know what's trending, what's being talked about, what movements are shaping culture and how (or whether) IIAD should respond. Pop culture, design discourse, social issues, global and local all of it informs how we communicate.
- Generate ideas, not just execute them: We need someone who can pitch concepts for campaigns, suggest content series, and spot opportunities to insert IIAD into larger cultural conversations. You're not waiting for a brief you're co-creating it.
- Collaborate across departments: Regular touchpoints with faculty, students, admissions, program heads, and external agencies. You're gathering stories, aligning messaging, and ensuring that what we say actually reflects what we do.
- Track, analyse, refine: Monitor engagement, performance, and sentiment across platforms. Use insights to evolve our approach what's resonating, what's not, and why.
Who You Are
You're a cultural omnivore.
You read books. You watch films (and not just the ones everyone talks about). You notice design in everyday spaces. You have opinions about typography, about casting choices, about how cities are planned. You're curious about history, geography, mythology, subcultures. You connect things that don't obviously connect.
You're a natural storyteller across mediums.
You can craft a narrative arc across platforms an Instagram Reel isn't just a video, it's part of a larger conversation. You understand pacing, tone, visual rhythm, and context. You know when to be formal and when to be conversational. You know how a story changes when it's written vs. filmed vs. designed.
You're contextually switched on.
You know what's happening culturally, socially, politically. You can spot a meme reference, understand a design movement, explain why something went viral. You're online, but critically so.
You're exhaustingly multi-skilled.
Writing? Yes. Photography and video? Absolutely. Basic graphic design? Of course. Event coordination? Sure. Video ideation, shooting, and editing? That too. Giving feedback to external designers? Yes. Spotting a typo in a 40-slide deck at 6pm? Unfortunately, also yes.
You're a self-directed learner.
You don't wait to be taught. You pick up tools, platforms, and skills as needed. If tomorrow we need to figure out a new platform, a new tool, or a new format you're the person who dives in first.
Technical skills you MUST have:
- Fluent writing and editing in English
- Photography skills (phone + DSLR/mirrorless)
- Video shooting and editing (Instagram Stories, Reels, YouTube basic to intermediate level)
- Graphic design software: Canva (essential), Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (strong plus)
- Social media platforms and native analytics (Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube)
- MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Technical skills that are a BIG plus:
- Advanced video editing (Premiere Pro, Final Cut, CapCut)
- Motion graphics (After Effects basics)
- Figma or other design collaboration tools
- Email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, etc.)
- Understanding of SEO, content strategy, and digital storytelling
Salary : 25k-40k/month (Negotiable and commensurate with skills and qualifications).
