Job Summary
The Deputy Manager EHS is responsible for the effective implementation, monitoring, and continual improvement of the Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Management Systems at the site. The role ensures compliance with statutory, regulatory, and organizational EHS requirements, minimizes risks and liabilities, and drives a strong safety culture across the plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and ensure consistent implementation of EMMVEE Integrated Management System (IMS) policies, procedures, standards, guidance documents, and EHS initiatives.
- Ensure implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of EHS management systems to meet applicable legal, regulatory, and other requirements.
- Implement and monitor work permit systems, contractor safety management, and visitor safety programs.
- Advise and ensure the use of appropriate, high-quality Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across the workplace.
- Coordinate safety awareness programs, campaigns, and events to promote a strong safety culture.
- Evaluate and manage internal EHS incident reporting systems, including participation in root cause investigations.
- Develop, implement, and track corrective and preventive action plans; communicate lessons learned using incident reporting tools.
- Identify, monitor, analyze, and report leading and lagging EHS metrics and KPIs to ensure transparency and site-level engagement.
- Participate in and support internal and external EHS audits, including audits across all units.
- Develop and deliver plant-specific EHS training programs aligned with the EHS training matrix, legal requirements, and EMMVEE EHS Training Needs Identification (TNI).
- Facilitate industrial hygiene assessments and ergonomic evaluations to ensure compliance with EHS regulations.
- Ensure strict compliance with local, state, and national EHS legal requirements.
- Maintain accurate EHS records including training, incident reports, and corrective actions.
- Act as the site representative for EHS Management Systems and ISO certifications (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001), including documentation, audits, and compliance.
- Manage emergency response actions related to environmental incidents, employee safety, and community impact.
- Prepare and release Monthly EHS MIS reports for management review.
- Conduct safety committee meetings at defined intervals and ensure compliance with Minutes of Meeting (MOM) requirements.
- Drive employee engagement initiatives, safety promotional activities, and continuous improvement programs.
- Conduct onsite emergency evacuation drills and train Emergency Response Teams (ERT) for effective emergency mitigation.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of EHS legislation and compliance requirements
- Hands-on experience with ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 systems
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis expertise
- Strong communication, training, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to analyze EHS data, KPIs, and prepare MIS reports
- Leadership skills to influence safety culture and employee engagement
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety Management, or related field
- Certifications in Industrial Safety, NEBOSH, or equivalent (preferred)
