Job Description
English Teacher - Middle School
We are looking for an English FLE Teacher for our Lower Secondary programme (typically Grades 68). This role is for someone who enjoys working with children at a transitional age, when language, identity, and thinking are all taking shape.
At Aalam, English is not treated only as a subject to be completed, but as a living language , used for reading, thinking, speaking, writing, and making sense of the world. Success in this role looks like children becoming more confident readers, clearer writers, and more thoughtful communicators, without fear of the language.
You will be part of a close-knit teaching team and will work alongside mentors, coordinators, and children in a collaborative and reflective environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate English language and literature sessions aligned with the Cambridge Lower Secondary FLE framework
- Create a classroom space where children feel safe to read aloud, speak up, ask questions, and express ideas
- Help children develop skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking through meaningful texts and discussions
- Encourage thinking through literature, not just comprehension or exam preparation
- Observe children closely and respond to their individual learning needs and pace
- Use assessments as a tool for feedback and growth, rather than only for grading
- Work collaboratively with other teachers and mentors to support the overall learning journey of the children
- Participate in reflections, meetings, and school processes that strengthen teaching practice
Qualifications
- Strong comfort with the English language, both spoken and written
- A background in English, education, or a related field (formal degrees are welcome, but mindset matters more)
- Experience working with middle school or lower secondary children is preferred
- Familiarity with the Cambridge curriculum is an advantage, but not mandatory
- Willingness to reflect, learn, and grow as a teacher
- Ability to build respectful and warm relationships with children
