Job Description
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the teams that build
and operate our internal Developer Experience (DevEx) and DevOps platforms. This role
is responsible for enabling product teams to ship secure, reliable software quickly by
providing world-class CI/CD, observability, environments, and self-service tooling. The
role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management and
cross-functional collaboration.
If you thrive in fast-paced environments, have strong technical depth, and are
passionate about building resilient platforms with a start-up mindset, wed love to talk to
you.
Key Responsibilities
People & Team Leadership
Manage and grow a high-performing team of engineers (DevEx, platform, DevOps), providing regular 1:1s, coaching, feedback, and career development.
Create a culture of ownership, learning, and psychological safety where engineers feel empowered to improve the platform and challenge the status quo.
Drive hiring, onboarding, and performance management for the team, setting clear expectations and outcomes.
Technical Leadership DevEx & Platform
Own the strategy and roadmap for Developer Experience and Platform Engineering in partnership with Product and Architecture.
Lead design and evolution of internal platforms: CI/CD pipelines, build and release tooling, internal CLIs/SDKs, templates, and golden paths for services.
Champion standardization (service templates, infrastructure patterns, security baselines) to reduce cognitive load for product teams.
Guide teams in selecting and using modern DevOps tooling (e.g., Git-based workflows, CI systems, artifact repositories, infrastructure-as-code, Kubernetes/serverless platforms).
DevOps, Reliability & Operations
Oversee the design and operation of core delivery and runtime infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and cost efficiency.
Partner with SRE/Infra to define and meet SLOs/SLIs for shared platforms; drive incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term fixes.
Ensure robust observability (logging, metrics, tracing) and standardized runbooks for platform services.
Establish best practices for environment management (dev/stage/prod), deployment strategies (blue/green, canary), and rollback safety.
Developer Experience & Customer Focus
Treat internal engineers as primary customers: regularly gather feedback, identify friction in the SDLC, and prioritize improvements that save developer time.
Measure DevEx using clear metrics (e.g., lead time for change, deployment frequency, mean time to recovery, onboarding time) and drive continuous improvement.
Partner with security, architecture, and product teams to align platform capabilities with compliance and business needs without slowing down delivery.
Process & Execution
Translate high-level business and platform goals into clear OKRs, roadmap items, and sprint plans for the team.
Balance strategic investments (platform evolution, tech debt, foundational work) with near-term delivery commitments.
Improve ways of working across teams: documentation, templates, standards, guilds/chapters, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Required Qualifications
812 years of industry experience building and operating cloud-based products or platforms.
24+ years of experience leading engineering teams (people management, not just tech lead), ideally in platform, DevOps, or Developer Experience domains.
Strong hands-on background with modern DevOps practices: CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) or serverless, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), and observability stacks.
Proven experience designing or evolving internal platforms/tools used by many product teams (e.g., deployment platforms, service templates, shared libraries, internal CLIs).
Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals (APIs, microservices, distributed systems, security basics) and ability to review designs and code at a high level.
Demonstrated ability to set direction, manage stakeholders, and drive alignment across multiple teams and functions.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical trade-offs into clear options for engineering and business stakeholders.
Nice-to-Have
Experience in a Staff/Principal Engineer or Tech Lead role before moving into management.
Prior work in Developer Productivity/Enablement, Platform Engineering, or SRE organizations.
Exposure to policies and tooling around SDLC governance, security controls, and compliance (e.g., audit trails, approvals, policy-as-code).
Experience with data platforms or analytics pipelines supporting engineering metrics and observability.
Why Join Us?
Build and scale modern Dev Ex platforms from the ground up.
Define the culture, processes, and growth path of the Dev Ex function.
Work with cutting-edge technologies and best practices.
Impact a rapidly growing organization by shaping infrastructure at scale.
Thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with autonomy and ownership.
