Job Description

Role Summary

The Engineering Manager Complex Programs is responsible for leading cross-functional engineering teams to deliver large-scale, highly complex programs involving multiple systems, stakeholders, and dependencies. This role blends technical leadership, people management, and program execution to ensure delivery on time, within scope, and to quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Program & Delivery Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end execution of complex, multi-team engineering programs with high technical and organizational complexity
  • Own program planning, milestones, dependencies, risks, and delivery commitments
  • Partner with Product, Architecture, Operations, and Business stakeholders to align priorities and outcomes
  • Drive trade-off decisions balancing scope, timeline, cost, and technical quality

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical direction and architectural guidance across teams
  • Review designs and ensure adherence to engineering standards, scalability, reliability, and security requirements
  • Guide teams through complex technical problem-solving and system-level thinking
  • Ensure technical debt is identified, prioritized, and managed effectively

People Management & Team Development

  • Manage, mentor, and grow engineering managers and/or senior engineers
  • Foster a high-performance, inclusive, and accountable engineering culture
  • Conduct performance reviews, career development planning, and coaching
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, skill development, and succession planning

Execution & Operational Excellence

  • Establish and improve engineering processes (Agile, SDLC, DevOps, etc.)
  • Monitor delivery metrics, engineering health, and operational KPIs
  • Proactively identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, regulatory, and quality standards

Stakeholder Communication

  • Communicate program status, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership
  • Translate complex technical topics into clear business insights
  • Influence without authority across teams and organizational boundaries

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 1116 years of engineering experience, including 35+ years in engineering management
  • Proven experience leading large-scale, complex, cross-functional programs
  • Strong background in system design and architecture
  • Experience working in Agile / hybrid delivery environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing managers (Manager-of-Managers role)
  • Background in distributed systems, platforms, or large enterprise products
  • Program management or delivery certification (PMP, SAFe, etc.)
  • Experience working with global or distributed teams
