Engineering Manager - Video Technology

About the role 

Sportz Interactive is redefining the sports content experience through next-gen video and media technology. We’re looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to spearhead the development and operations of our scalable, enterprise grade video and media applications. You’ll play a foundational role in shaping the technical backbone of our video stack — from backend architecture to system design and AWS infrastructure.

A key mandate for this role is to ensure high performance, maintainability, and reliability across our video workflows. You’ll lead efforts in building robust backend services, optimizing media processing pipelines, and driving extensible platform architecture that supports evolving product needs. This is a high-impact, hands-on role with the opportunity to influence product direction and tech innovation at scale.

Key Responsibilities

•  Full-Stack Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of frontend SDKs and web interfaces alongside backend microservices that handle video upload, rich timeline editing, metadata management and secure asset storage.
• Scalability & Multi-Tenancy: Architect services and data partitions to support isolated tenant workflows, high-throughput ingestion, elastic auto-scaling, CDN distribution and cost-efficient storage tiers.
• Video Processing Pipelines: Build and optimize encoding/transcoding workflows, adaptive packaging (HLS/DASH/CMAF), and DRM integration—while maintaining sub-second startup times and seamless playback across devices.
• Cloud & Infrastructure as Code: Own AWS infrastructure (EC2/EKS/Fargate/Lambda, S3/Glacier, CloudFront, VPC, IAM/KMS) with Terraform or CloudFormation, ensuring secure, compliant environments and reproducible CI/CD pipelines.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, UX, QA, Security and Support to define APIs, SLAs, integration guides, pilot programs and feedback loops—balancing agility with enterprise-grade stability.
• Technical Leadership: Mentor and grow a distributed engineering team; establish coding standards, observability, test automation, GitOps practices and runbook-driven operations.
• Innovation & Evaluation: Continuously evaluate emerging video-tech frameworks, codecs (AV1, VVC), live_x0002_ streaming protocols (WebRTC, SRT) and serverless media services—running targeted POCs to inform our roadmap.

Background and Experience

• 10+ years in software engineering, including 4+ years in technical leadership or management
• Proven full-stack experience delivering frontend frameworks/SDKs and backend microservices for high_x0002_ performance applications
• Deep expertise in distributed systems: caching, sharding, event-driven patterns, CI/CD and container orchestration
• Hands-on with video streaming or media management platforms, including encoding/transcoding and adaptive streaming
• Strong AWS proficiency across compute, storage, CDN, networking and security
• Excellent communication skills and experience partnering with cross-functional teams 

Good to Have

• Familiarity with video codecs (H.264/H.265, AV1), DRM solutions and playback SDKs
• Experience integrating AI/ML or computer vision pipelines for metadata enrichment or content analysis
• Knowledge of low latency/live protocols (WebRTC, SRT) and real-time collaborative editing features
• Background in enterprise security and compliance (SOC2, ISO 27001)
