Our Team, Publishing Systems 

News UK is one of the United Kingdom’s largest news publishers, with significant print and digital operations across The Sun, The Times, The Sunday Times, Dow Jones and Wireless group.  

The Publishing Systems Team, based in London and Bangalore, are responsible for managing and enhancing Enterprise-level systems and applications across commercial operations, editorial content creation and publishing, and print site manufacturing. NTS performs application integration development, test, and delivery for editorial publishing system Methode, and many more.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Software Engineer, with previous experience in Enterprise-level applications and integrations, working well within and across teams and transparently to stakeholders and management. 

The person should have experience in Agile development methodologies including scrum and possess the ability to plan and oversee the independent initiatives, process, and tasks. They should observe and adapt, suggesting improvements to the overall process to adhere to the highest standards and fulfill business requirements. The candidate should have a willingness and synergy to take up new challenges, with the capability to manage multiple concurrent projects.

Roles & Responsibilities

• You will be part of a talented software team that works on mission-critical applications. You will be responsible for Java, Java Servlets, jsp, JSTL, Javascript, XML, XSD,XSL,HTML, CSS application development while providing expertise in the full software development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing.

Requirements 

• Design and develop high-volume, low-latency applications for mission-critical systems, delivering high-availability and performance.

• Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle.

• Write well designed, testable, efficient code.

• Ensure designs are in compliance with specifications.

• Prepare and produce releases of software components.

• Exposure to working in Cloud Platforms such as AWS.

• Support continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and technologies and presenting these for architectural review.

• Follow industry best practices

• Troubleshoot, test and maintain the core product software and databases to ensure strong optimization and functionality

Skills and Qualifications we look for

• More than 2 years of experience in Software Development in Enterprise/ Web applications.

• UG/PG Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject

• Proven working experience in Linux, Windows and MacOS

• Proven working experience in Java, Java Servlets,Perl and Shell script

• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as SVN and GiT

• Object Oriented analysis and design using common design patterns.

• Demonstrable knowledge of web technologies including HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML, XSL, SSL, AJAX, Bash Shell scripting

• Good knowledge of relational databases(MySQL, Oracle, RDBMS), version control tools and of developing web services.

• Passion for best design and coding practices and a desire to develop new bold ideas

• Experience with test-driven development

Good to have skills

• Exposure to Magazine, Newspaper and On-Line publishing applications and workflows

• Other programming languages and paradigms (Python, PHP, Node js)
